According to the biometric －, Ghana is going to start a biometric-based national program in October 2021 with biometric technology. That means Ghana might be the first country to use contactless biometrics in national vaccination program.
It was reported that Ghana’s national vaccination program will use cost-effective Android smartphone to make the initiative affordable and easily roll out, after testing biometric technology for contactless fingerprint and face recognition.
Why contactless biometric will be used at national vaccination? That’s because identity identification is an essential step to make vaccination registration. However, there are more than 1.1 billion people around the world lack an official identity. Biometrics present a way for government and NGOs to use digital technologies for accurate and quickly identify recipients’ identification, and the vaccination status can be checked in a traceable way via biometric records.
