Recently, Walmart launched a free, secure, and frictionless digital wallet to enable consumer digital access to their health pass data, particularly their COVID-19 vaccine record. It indicates that the usage scale of digital health passport is expanding, not merely in transportation and tourist industry.
What is Walmart's digital health wallet?
The Walmart digital health wallet, or called as digital health record, is a free digital version of the vaccine cards issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It contains an individual’s name, date of birth, vaccination date, vaccine manufacturer, vaccine lot number and vaccinated location.
The digital vaccine record will be available to people age 18 and older that vaccinated at Walmart or Sam’s Club pharmacy, or a Walmart-run vaccine event. Moreover, people can print their record, save, share or request to receive it as a QR code through their Walmart or Sam's Club online account.
Is that digital health wallet secure?
It was reported that Walmart uses the open, interoperate SMART Health Cards standard defined by the Vaccination Credential Initiative. That means the digital vaccine record can be safely and privately shared with other compatible services if people choose, following all HIPAA privacy guidelines.
