Data Integrations to Help Transport Operators Make the Right Connections

Bus and coach surveillance specialist Synectics will be using this year’s Euro Bus Expo to showcase integrations and innovations developed to support the industry in taking a more “connected approach to safety, security, and passenger experience.”
With over 30 years’ experience serving the bus and coach industry, Synectics offers a comprehensive range of solutions many operators rely on, including onboard surveillance cameras (analog, HD, and IP), ruggedized hybrid recording, and telematics technology for capturing, collating, and interrogating vehicle and driver performance for informed fleet management.
Crucially, Synectics’ experience in the broader transport market, its heritage in public space surveillance, and expertise in critical infrastructure protection, also enable the provider to offer intelligently integrated data management solutions that unify disparate systems to support broader operational objectives and changing industry demands.
Iain Stringer, Divisional Director at Synectics explains: “We are living in an increasingly ‘joined up’ world where a connected approach to safety, security, and passenger experience is no longer the ideal, it is an expectation.
“Bus operators are under pressure to use their systems and devices more cohesively to offer an improved experience and service for passengers and also to see how they can work more collaboratively with third parties to address evolving safety and security challenges. That’s a brief we are well-positioned to support – particularly with the latest integrations and features within our Synergy 3 software platform.
“For example, we’ve recently added capabilities that will allow operators to integrate their cameras with facial recognition systems in order to identify and track persons of interest across their fleet, while our expertise in video and evidence management (including secure data sharing) will support greater collaboration with local authorities and police for improved incident management.
“Our primary goal is helping our customers maximize the opportunity that exists to create meaningful connections between technologies.”
Other ‘connected’ opportunities Synectics will be focusing on at Euro Bus include:
Predictive maintenance - integrating vehicle performance tracking (e.g., CANBus) with user-defined workflows and alerts to rapidly identify pre-fail conditions, automate fault reporting and maintenance dispatch to prevent avoidable breakdowns and service downtime.
Route optimization – pairing GPS and vehicle-tracking data with GIS mapping and traffic/news -s to match vehicle movements against live congestion issues or road closures for real-time re-routing.
Service optimization – collating GPS and vehicle-tracking data with information from on-vehicle systems such as passenger-counting solutions, to identify under- or over-served routes for improved service planning.
Iain Stringer concludes: “Taking a more connected approach to operations needn’t be daunting because in most cases the building blocks are already there, the answer is about adopting the right solution to maximize data gleaned from existing systems and equipment.
“Our focus is on helping customers to capitalize on this opportunity now, and also to ready them for new developments, for example around cloud-based solutions, so that they will be in the best position possible to realize even more benefits including faster situational analysis, real-time data sharing, and more effective (even unlimited) data storage.”
