Synectics Partners Global Bus Builder on Electric Fleet Contracts
Source: Synectics
Synectics is to provide surveillance solutions for new electric buses being introduced to two city fleets in the UK as part of industry initiatives to reduce city centre emissions.

The contracts with Metroline and Nottingham City Council will see the global surveillance solutions provider partner with China-based BYD – the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer – to deploy its on-vehicle CCTV solutions on 18 new electric buses set to operate in London and Nottingham.

The zero-emission vehicles, all being built and assembled by BYD in China, will utilise Synectics’ proprietary hardware, including its ruggedized T1600 16-channel digital video recorder (DVR) with hybrid IP capability, alongside a mix of up to 16 analogue and IP cameras. Synectics’ technical experts have provided on-location training in China and ongoing support throughout the build process.

Jeff Fail, Managing Director at Synectics said: “We’re totally committed to ensuring our customers can rely on Synectics’ expertise and support wherever they are. We’ve had to adapt to the specific needs of our increasingly global client base, particularly in the Far East where we’ve developed a strong on-the-ground presence to support ongoing training and maintenance through our work with operators such as Hong Kong Citybus, KMB, MTR and New World First Bus.

“We are delighted to be working with BYD on these pioneering new electric vehicles. It demonstrates our commitment to growing and supporting an increasingly global bus industry, while also supporting long-term customers like Metroline for the complete lifecycle of the surveillance solution provided.”

The five new vehicles for Metroline are the first all-electric, zero-emission double-deckers to operate in London, joining the 22 single deck electric, 8 hydrogen and 1500 hybrid buses that currently service London routes. BYD will also supply 13 Synectics-equipped single decker vehicles to Nottingham City Council. These vehicles will be capable of driving up to 190 miles on a single charge providing significant cost efficiencies.

For operator Metroline, the benefits of having Synectics working closely with BYD are hugely important.

Ian Foster, Engineering Director at Metroline, said: “We have had a strong relationship with Synectics for many years, and they have worked with us in delivering several turnkey projects for our business. The latest link-up with the BYD vehicles reinforces our partnership and is an acknowledgement of the support and understanding Synectics has of our requirements, as well as the service back up we require for Metroline and the wider Comfort DelGro European operation.”

The Metroline and Nottingham City Council contracts follow news announced in July that Synectics is extending its relationship with Go Ahead, which is to roll out buses built by BYD and ADL between September and December 2016. The contract extension means Synectics solutions will be deployed on all 51 new vehicles built by BYD and ADL as part of the planned Go Ahead fleet expansions.
