Solutions on storage of bank ATM surveillance system

Banks belong to national key units of safety and precaution. Since they are featured with concentrated wealth and strong liquidity, they have become the targets of some extreme criminals. Therefore, to improve banks’ scientific management and safety and precaution abilities is very significant.
  
Currently, the isolated analog ATM surveillance or half-digital system has been established. ATM outlets of most banks are equipped with analog video image surveillance system and analog image surveillance system of each self service ATM outlet is based on the local analog surveillance, that is, each ATM outlet sets up their own complete surveillance system.
  
Ⅰ. Requirements of ATM digital surveillance network system
To strengthen the safe management of outlets, vaults, self service banking and ATMs of bank system and improve service quality of bank outlets, according to Digital conversion requirements on bank image surveillance system issued by the head office of XX Bank of China and Ministry of Public Security, it is required that the existing image surveillance system should have some transformation. The requirements are: front video camera can’t be lower than 420 lines; if the image is digitalized, it should meet the demands that every channel image is 25f/s and voice should be added in images on every channel simultaneously. Resolution should be over 352×288; monitoring center should be equipped with TV wall, large-screen rear projector and multi-media E-map which can have a remote surveillance of each outlet and ATMs in sub-branches and vaults and it can also have a linkage alarm with multi-media E-map in the monitoring center and display each alarm outlet, vault and ATM.

Ⅱ. Functions and features of ATM surveillance system
1. Image data processing function
Use particular special compression algorithm to store images. The image data can be stored for over 2 months. Hard disk can auto loop cover the stored image. Video information can be searched according to time and events. It can also replay all the recorded images in the hard disk of any time period or any video camera and the playback speed is adjustable (playback rate is 0.04-2). The playback image can be still and magnified. It can be externally connected with the printer and print out the stored image data. Video files support universal backup media and has been equipped with software driver. You can choose to use active hardware drive, disc-carving drive and tape drive.
  
2. Alarm function
Sensors in ATM surveillance system include human proximity alarm, note issuing sensor, vibration sensor and ATM emergency button. Immersion sensor, glass broken sensor and fire sensor are optional. It can detect incidents that might happen on the ATM, and record accurately the whole process of the event.
Card -ing alarm: when the depositor -s the bank card, it can emit the alarm information and start recording. Its advantages are: low false alarm rate; avoid capturing useless images and thus to save hard disk capacity and extend its working life. Banknote output sensor can capture the working status of banknote out feed and avoid disputes effectively which bring much convenience for evidence collecting. Vibration sensor: after receiving the alarm signal, it will drive the siren and reserve 220 V output signal. Based on users’ needs, other functions can also be configured. Human proximity sensor (optional): when human body approaches the ATM, it will trigger the alarm and start recording and when human body is out of the detection range, the system will auto stop recording. If choosing this device, you should guarantee the proper installation conditions to reduce the false alarm rate. As to the pre-recording function: before receiving the alarm signal, the main video camera starts to pre-recording the surrounding environment and the pre-recorded images are written in the memory. It will be refreshed within 1 second after the pre-set time (the default is 8 seconds). When receiving the alarm signal, the pre-recorded images in the memory will be written in the hard disk. This solution can record the whole process of the event effectively and maximally and can avoid useless files to occupy hard disk capacity as well as improve the recording efficiency.

3. Auto restoration function of ATM surveillance system
When the ATM surveillance product has any exceptional situation, for example, the host crashes, it can auto reset and guide it to normal working status. The surveillance host uses non-hardware watchdog circuit (host state monitoring) to guarantee that the host can restore after crashing.

4. Description of working process
When the depositor -s the card, the system will switch from normal pre-recording status to main video camera to be the formal capturing storage status. After an effective operation, the system will capture card number and overlay it on the recorded image. If the depositor chooses withdraw service, banknote output sensor senses output actions before the output of crashes and then banknote output alarm and the system then switches to banknote output feed to start capturing. Output actions are captured and several seconds (adjustable) later, system switches to the main camera and return to pre-recording status.

When the depositor breaks the ATM, the vibration sensor raises the alarm. The system will trigger the alarm signal (it can call the center under networking condition) in the local place and the main camera starts capturing. After the alarm, the system will return to pre-recording status.

If the proximity sensor is selected, when someone approaches the ATM, the system will switch the pre-recording status to main camera and start recording and storing. When the system keeps recording the banknote output feed for a few seconds, the system will switch to the main camera and return to formal recording status to record front image of humans. When the person is out of the set distance range, it will stop recording and return to pre-recording status.
  
Ⅲ. Design of storage system
The whole design thought reflects the concept of “centralized management, centralized storage, and distributed control”. It collects multi-images of ATMs in bank affiliates and furthermore, they will be collected in provincial banks and the head office which will have centralized display of the surveillance image of the whole system, remote switch and control as well as centralized data storage. It can achieve record query at any time and linkage alarm function.

When designing the storage system for bank digital surveillance project and selecting products, you should fully considered some important factors such as features of media information transmission and filing and retrieval requirements as well as the economy of the investments. FC storage system has excellent performance and expansion ability, but its cost investments are very high. ISCSI storage system is not so good as FC storage system, but its costs is relatively lower.

A. Outlets of sub-branch, main ATM monitoring, business area and important channel. Since the monitoring center of sub-branch is distributed everywhere and thus distributed storage is used in the local place. The quantity of front surveillance point of this level is limited. Therefore, the storage capacity is not large enough and you can use DAS to directly connect with the storage device.


B. Surveillance center of municipal branch bank is set up at the higher level of sub-branch surveillance. Surveillance of sub-branch mainly charges the monitoring center of sub-branches.
The developing trends must be centralized management mode. Therefore, digital host used for ATM surveillance in the outlets must have perfect network function. Considering of the current situation and safety, it is better to use PSTN and SDN and thus network function of digital host can be achieved in the narrow-band network.
