LILIN on solid ground to win out in U.S.

LILIN on solid ground to win out in U.S.
Forest Liu, GM of LILIN USA, notes that the company’s solid manufacturing capability, compliance with NDAA and ability to tailor solutions to different customer demands put it on the right track to achieve further growth in the U.S.
For over 20 years, Taiwan’s leading video solutions provider LILIN has maintained a strong presence in the U.S., where the company sells its own branded products and engages in OEM collaboration with partners. In an interview with asmag.com, Forest Liu, GM of LILIN USA, notes that the company’s solid manufacturing capability, compliance with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and ability to tailor solutions to different customer demands put it on the right track to achieve further growth in the U.S.

Liu recently joined LILIN as the company’s head of US operations. With an experience in the security industry for more than 13 years, Liu had been Senior Director for Hikvision North America prior to coming onboard LILIN. Liu had also been with Hanwha Techwin North America and ACTi prior to Hikvision.

Strong OEM business

LILIN entered the US market in 1997, focusing on brand first and then developing an OEM business which has grown pretty sizable over the years. OEM customers rely on LILIN’s technology prowess, fast turnaround cycle and strong customization capability to address client needs in different verticals and applications.

“LILIN has over 40 years professional manufacturing and sales experiences in surveillance security worldwide. We manufacture and own the hardware and software ourselves. Leading technology like AI and cloud-based ecosystems were all designed in-house, not to mention our fast turnaround design cycle and swift supply chain management. And because we own the core technology and code, we are flexible and capable of meeting customization requirements,” Liu said. “Brand customers appreciate us being a Taiwanese manufacturer, and they respect our solid build quality and leading technology to offer solutions for business owners’ pain points, for instance ultra-high definition 4K+ cameras to cover large intersections, human detection for community safety, AI-based face recognition for business management and AI-based license plate recognition for traffic control.”

How LILIN benefits SIs

Further, LILIN has built great relationships with US systems integrators with whom to build strong, vertical-driven solutions to suit end user needs from different sectors.

“A key strength of LILIN is the total vertical turn-key solution. LILIN has the complete package. From IP cameras, NVR, VMS, AI server, access control, we jigsaw the puzzle to address different vertical needs like traffic control, home automation, commercial, retail and education,” Liu said. “We’re also very proud to develop truly robust in-house AI deep learning algorithms to address various vertical market pain points like smart buildings, intelligent traffic control and manufacturing safety.”

Further, there are other unique demands in the U.S. that LILIN can help SIs address. One is cloud, which has become quite popular in the U.S. where the infrastructure is also becoming more mature. “In the U.S., fiber connections with hundreds to thousands of Mbps to home and commercial environments are common. The gigabit network infrastructure is solid. More and more business owners are looking at cloud management as a backup or even main solution for more and more aspects of their business,” Liu said. “LILIN uses US-based Amazon Web Services for our cloud device hosting management, dealer portal and service management. LILIN is ready for the cloud era to come.”

Finally LILIN wins out on compliance with various laws, superior after-sale support and partnerships with other big-name security associations and companies. “We comply with local regulations and certifications like NDAA, ISO, FCC, CE and UL. We are also pleased to have a great team in Arcadia, California to provide local services and support. As a leading surveillance company, LILIN North America is committed to observe local laws and help secure community safety,” Liu said. “We are also members of ONVIF, PSIA and key partners with Control 4, Milestone and Genetec.”

Post COVID-19 world

Needless to say, the U.S. has suffered significantly from COVID-19. Yet the country is also in the process of reopening most of their businesses. In this regard, LILIN has hardware and AI solutions that can help detect elevated body temperatures and detect whether someone is wearing a mask. “We have the recently released temperature screening thermal solution helping businesses in their effort toward reopening in the wake of today’s COVID-19 pandemic and the new normal life we’ll be living in. The camera is designed to screen individuals for elevated temperatures using thermal technology to reduce direct contact between humans during temperature checks,” he said. With our cutting edge AI engine, mask detection becomes feasible, and elevated screening becomes much more efficient and poses significantly less risk for the operator.”

NDAA-compliant

All LILIN cameras are NDAA-compliant, built with Sony sensors as well as with either Ambarella or Trident systems-on-chips. The cameras are also cyber-secure, including features such as injection and cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks testing; California IoT security password law compliance; CVSS v3 severity rating scan; FIPS 140-2 Annex A AES256 encryption of firmware and secured data; and RTSPs/HTTPs streaming. The above features were tested by Deloitte Taiwan, Electronics Testing Center of Taiwan and CHT Security and are certified by TAICS. These factors, as well as closer ties between the U.S. and Taiwan, present opportunities for LILIN to secure more projects in different US segments, especially in government. In Liu’s words, LILIN has already built great relationships with local municipalities, and the company is aggressively entering more local and federal government projects. With the technology advances LILIN has achieved, as well as its ability to design and manufacture solutions that satisfy the needs of different verticals, LILIN is definitely on the right track to see further growth and success in the US market.
