New energy vehicle battery warehouses are currently among the most high-risk and publicly concerned fire locations, and the ultraviolet flame detector is perfectly suited to address this issue.
The key risk point is “thermal runaway + open flame”. A small flame can rapidly escalate into a large-scale fire within seconds to tens of seconds. Traditional smoke and heat detectors often only sound an alarm after a large amount of smoke has been produced and the temperature has already risen, leaving little time for on-site personnel to react.
Fire safety regulations for battery warehouses and charging stations are continuously focus on earlier fire detection and automated response. It is difficult to achieve 24/7 “monitoring” by relying solely on patrols and general smoke detectors.
Advantages of the ultraviolet flame detector:
1. Identifies open flames in 0.2 seconds, saving precious time for firefighting.
The ultraviolet photosensitive technology and optimized control circuitry, making it extremely sensitive to the ultraviolet band of flames. It can identify open flames and output an alarm signal in as little as approximately 0.2 seconds.
2. If you can see a lighter flame from 10 meters away, even a small fire won’t escape.
Within a range of approximately 10 meters, the ultraviolet flame detector can detect lighter flames as high as about 7 centimeters, meaning that even the smallest open flames between battery modules, pallets, and shelf layers can be captured.
At the same time, it has a wide field of view of approximately 120°. With an effective detection range of up to 25 meters, after proper deployment, a single detector can cover an entire shelf area or multiple charging stations, saving on equipment investment and improving the overall safety level.
3. Focus on the ultraviolet characteristics of flames to reduce false alarm rate.
The ultraviolet flame detector focuses on the ultraviolet characteristics of flames and, through algorithms such as “detection period setting,” effectively eliminates non-flame interference such as external light sources and flickering lights, significantly reducing the false alarm rate.
Especially suitable for warehouse environments with LED lighting and monitoring supplemental lighting. Wide voltage adaptability (approximately 10–30V DC non-polarized) and low power consumption design (standby current approximately 25mA).
The alarm current does not exceed approximately 75mA, and it is also easy to integrate into existing DC power supply and fire protection systems.
The correct way to use the ultraviolet flame detector:
1. Installation site selection strategies
Conservatively cover the battery trays or shelves directly above or diagonally above them, with a radius of 10–15 meters and a field of view of 120°, avoiding obstruction by beams or columns.
In areas with concentrated “heat generation and electrical activity,” such as charging and discharging stations, aging inspection stations, and PACK assembly sections, denser deployment of monitoring points will be increased to focus on protecting parts prone to sparks and localized overheating.
At key locations such as the entrance to the battery warehouse, distribution cabinets, and battery BMS cabinets, it can serve as a supplement to local open flame detection, forming a combined protection system with smoke and heat detectors.
2. Alarm and linkage
The ultraviolet flame detector features a built-in buzzer for on-site audible alerts and provides selectable normally open/normally closed relay output signals, allowing direct connection to existing fire alarm control panels or other systems.
Integrate with PLC, DCS, and other automation systems. In the event of a fire, it can be activated in conjunction with these systems.
– Use audible and visual alarms and broadcast announcements to organize the evacuation of personnel.
– Disconnect the charging power, power lines, and ventilation system in the affected area.
– Activate an automatic fire suppression system designed for battery fires (such as gas extinguishing, sprinkler, or water mist).
