ATM Surveillance Based On IOT Technology

Most people must be familiar with the Internet. However, when we talk about the IOT, I’m afraid that fewer people know about that.
What is IOT? And what are the technical features of IOT?
Actually, the core of IOT is still the Internet. IOT means “the networked interconnection of everyday objects”. It has two meanings: first, the core and basis of IOT is still the Internet and it is the extension and expansion of the Internet. Second, its client extends and expands between objects and objects to do information exchange and communication. Therefore, definition of IOT is that it is a network that uses information sensing devices including RFID devices, infrared sensor, global positioning system and laser scanner and based on agreed protocol to connect any objects with the Internet to do information exchange and communication and thus achieve intelligent recognition, positioning, tracking, monitoring and management.
With the establishment of socialist market economy and rapid development of electronic banks, ATMs are widely used and they have brought a lot of convenience to people’s daily life. Due to the facts that ATMs have automatic withdrawal functions and they are unattended, ATM crimes and disputes keep increasing. Therefore, how to guarantee ATM’s safe operation, reduce and prevent risks as well as fighting ATM crimes to protect banks and customers’ benefits are urgent problems.
Many people might think that ATM security based on IOT technology is just the expansion of the market rather than the actual development of ATM security technology and it has no substantial progress. Actually, it is totally wrong. Let’s first take a look at the following two cases.
Case 1: it is a credit card fraud happened in Henan Province. A man appeared at the front of an ATM in a morning. He installed a suspected card theft equipment on the card slot and then left. A few minutes later, Mr. Wang came to withdraw money from this ATM and the operation was completed successfully. About 10 minutes later, the previous man returned and got back the suspected card theft equipment. A few days later, Mr. Wang went to the bank to withdraw money only to find that his money in the bank card had been all stolen.
After the crime, the local police immediately retrieved the monitoring video and quickly obtained characteristics of the suspect. However, since there were no other monitoring devices around the bank, the police can’t trace where the suspect had gone and thus the crime had to be shelved.
Case 2: the crime happened in Shanghai before the Expo which was similar to the previous one. A German came across the card theft equipment when withdrawing. The police immediately retrieved the monitoring video and mastered the characteristics of the suspect. However, the difference between the two cases is that the bank in Shanghai has used ATM security technology based on the IOT. Human activity detector based on IOT analyzed facial features of the criminal in time and when the police entered the criminal’s facial features to the Internet, information related to the criminal that is recorded on the surrounding relevant surveillance devices were collected to the police station at the very first time. Sooner, according to the information provided by a monitoring system (with IOT-based human activity detector) of a residential area, the police arrested the criminal hided there. This time, the police only spent 3 hours in solving the crime.
On technical level, the application of ATM security based on IOT technology is more efficient, more convenient, more accurate and safer than the traditional one. From the perspective of development of the industry and technology, ATM security based on IOT technology has a brighter future.
