Unlocking the future of intelligent surveillance with Dahua's WizColor technology

Unlocking the future of intelligent surveillance with Dahua's WizColor technology
Dahua’s WizColor technology addresses these limitations by enhancing color imaging in low-light conditions without relying on traditional LED illumination. It achieves this through a combination of an F1.0 large aperture lens, AI-ISP (Artificial Intelligence Image Signal Processing) technology, and a large pixel size sensor, providing broader and more effective surveillance coverage.
Security doesn’t have time to wait. Whether it’s day or night, your cameras must perform flawlessly in any lighting conditions, making reliable, around-the-clock surveillance essential.

Security professionals now must anticipate and prevent threats in real time, but traditional systems often fail in low-light situations, leaving critical gaps. These vulnerabilities can be costly when vigilance is most needed.

Dahua’s WizColor technology directly addresses these challenges, delivering superior performance in all lighting conditions. By redefining intelligent surveillance, it ensures the clarity and reliability necessary to protect critical assets, day or night.

Dahua's latest solution: an overview

Traditional full-color cameras often rely on warm or white LED lights that activate when ambient light levels drop at night. These LEDs illuminate the monitoring area to capture full-color images, but their limited range means that only targets within the illuminated area are visible.

Dahua’s WizColor technology addresses these limitations by enhancing color imaging in low-light conditions without relying on traditional LED illumination. It achieves this through a combination of an F1.0 large aperture, AI-ISP (Artificial Intelligence Image Signal Processing) technology, and a large pixel size sensor, providing broader and more effective surveillance coverage.

"The WizColor camera doesn’t rely on LED lights,” said Beryl Bai, Product Manager at Dahua Technology. “Instead, it leverages an F1.0 large aperture, a large pixel size sensor, and AI-ISP technology. Unlike traditional self-illuminating cameras, Dahua’s WizColor maximizes weak light sources like moonlight and city lights, delivering full-color images across the entire scene. This approach ensures that monitoring distances aren’t compromised at night due to limited illumination, allowing for full-color image capture over long distances.”

With its extended range, the WizColor camera enhances perimeter protection by detecting targets earlier and providing detailed information for high-accuracy detection. Additionally, the PTZ version of WizColor supports sound and light alarms to effectively deter intruders.

Key features and benefits

WizColor technology optimizes ambient light sources, such as moonlight or city lights, to produce clear, full-color images over long distances. This capability is particularly beneficial for perimeter protection, where early and detailed threat detection is crucial.
  1. F1.0 large aperture: The F1.0 large aperture in WizColor cameras captures 2.5 times more light than conventional F1.6 apertures, resulting in brighter images and enhanced color detail, even in low-light environments.

  2. Large pixel size sensor: A larger 2.9μm pixel size in an image sensor enhances low-light surveillance by significantly improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This allows the sensor to capture more light, resulting in clearer images with better detail and reduced noise. Enhanced color accuracy and the ability to minimize motion blur at faster shutter speeds further improve image quality.

  3. AI-ISP technology: The high-performance AI-ISP chip features robust computing power and optimized algorithm models, leading to a 40% increase in visual processing efficiency. Additionally, it achieves a 30 percent reduction in power consumption compared to other industry chips of similar performance, thanks to its advanced 28nm process design.

“The AI-ISP technology also incorporates a deep learning image processing algorithm with 3-layer temporal noise reduction, 2-layer 2D noise reduction, and precise motion detection” Bai said. “These advancements result in a significant upgrade to the denoising module, offering a 50% improvement in scene detail restoration, a 30% enhancement in color accuracy, a 200% increase in motion detection precision, and an 80% reduction in motion blur.”

  4. Smart detection and alarms: The AI-ISP technology enhances the accuracy of smart detection systems, particularly in areas with varied ambient light. WizColor cameras can detect potential threats earlier, providing detailed information that improves alarm precision and reduces unnecessary alerts.

“WizColor camera uses AI models to accurately distinguish between noise and effective target information, perform pixel level precise noise reduction, and accurately restore detailed targets information to reduce the blurry image at night,” Bai said. “With hardware equipped with blue-wave optical components, the WizColor camera’s lens accurately filters out infrared wavelengths, solving issues with blurry images.”

Integrating for challenges

WizColor technology is not just a theoretical advancement – it has already demonstrated its effectiveness in various real-world applications.

AI-ISP technology maximizes the use of minimal light to produce full-color images throughout the entire scene," Bai explained. "This enables the WizColor camera to maintain clear visibility and effective monitoring distances, even in low-light environments at night.”

The camera's extended illumination range strengthens perimeter protection by enabling earlier threat detection and delivering detailed information about targets, enhancing detection accuracy.

"WizColor technology represents a significant advancement in the surveillance industry," Bai added. "By combining advanced optics technology with AI-driven image processing, we’ve developed a solution that meets and exceeds the expectations of today’s security professionals, offering incomparable clarity and reliability in both residential and commercial environments."
