Dahua contributes to sustainability with green products and practices
This article looks at some of Dahua’s green practices as well as its environment-themed products and solutions, including the D-Volt electric vehicle charger and the Integrated Solar-powered Solution.
Globally, the concept of sustainability and environmental protection has picked up steam. In this regard, Dahua Technology has made significant progress. This article looks at some of Dahua’s green practices as well as its environment-themed products and solutions, including the D-Volt electric vehicle charger and the Integrated Solar-powered Solution.

Global trends towards sustainability

Needless to say, the green and sustainability trend has gathered momentum across the globe. Amid this phenomenon, various countries have set sustainable development goals, in keeping with the UN initiative to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. As for the private sector, more companies are responding to the green trend by placing a stronger focus on carbon neutrality, green technologies, transparency and accountability.

Dahua catches up with green trend

As a leader in AIoT-based video solutions and a responsible corporate citizen, Dahua has played its part making the environment cleaner and more sustainable. The company has engaged in various green practices including: green R&D, where Dahua incorporates environmental requirements into its R&D process and ensures that products utilize low-carbon sources; green packaging, where the company uses non-plastic packaging materials and has pioneered a thin film composite packaging technology; and green operation, where Dahua uses intelligent energy consumption systems for monitoring and tracking real-time energy consumption at its smart facilities, employs clean energy within its industrial parks via the use of photovoltaic panels, and utilizes green data centers to achieve further carbon neutrality.

Green products and solutions

Besides the above practices, Dahua has also made significant strides in manufacturing green products and solutions. One of them is the D-Volt electric vehicle charger launched by Dahua’s newly established EV charging business. The Integrated Solar-powered Solution, meanwhile, is also worth-mentioning. Below we take a closer look at both.

D-Volt

D-Volt is the flagship product of Dahua’s new EV charging business that is dedicated to offering comprehensive solutions for electric vehicle charging in global markets. “In the era of mass electric mobility, D-Volt is bound to revolutionize the way you power your electric vehicles, making itself the ‘charge of the change,’” said Thomas Tian, Product Manager at Dahua Technology.

In terms of the materials used, the D-Volt charger adopts the V0 grade flame-retardant polycarbonate, a recyclable and reusable eco-friendly material. As for charging power, D-Volt offers three different charging powers (7 kW, 11 kW, and 22 kW) to accommodate various charging needs: users can easily start/stop charging, make reservations, and monitor the charging status through a dedicated app, which streamlines the charging process and provides greater control.

The charger can be installed in various locations, such as private homes, workplaces, shopping malls, parking lots and gas stations. It’s worth-mentioning that the charger is easy to install. “We use an approach named ‘install first, wire later’ which supports pre-installation before wiring,” Tian said.

Last but not least, safety is a hallmark of the charger. During the R&D process, careful consideration was made on potential instability of power systems. This is particularly true for home loads, where the charger's power output is relatively high, starting at maximum power without limitations. To address this, a dynamic load balancing solution is used, a function that continuously monitors the available power capacity of the home and automatically adjusts the charger’s output power accordingly. This ensures the optimal utilization of the home's power supply and prevents any adverse impact on other electrical devices.

Two models of D-Volt were launched this month: D-Volt Air, targeting individual home users, and the D-Volt Pro, primarily designed for commercial scenarios. Dahua plans to launch the D-Volt Mini, a portable version of the charger, later this year, and the D-Volt Ultra DC fast charging station in 2025 to serve further needs of the market.

Integrated Solar-powered Solution

Dahua has also introduced the Integrated Solar-powered Solution, which is ideal for remote area business owners in need of securing their property. The solution is designed for 24/7 monitoring by utilizing solar energy and is armed with intelligent functions to combat intrusion and other security-related incidents. Main advantages include:

24/7 Surveillance: The solution supports 24/7 video recording and provides detailed and comprehensive coverage. The system also boasts 99 percent accuracy in detecting intruders, minimizing property loss;

Low-cost deployment: The all-in-one design provides a low-cost deployment with full installation within 20 minutes, significantly reducing the expenses compared to traditional cabled power and network construction;

Real-time intrusion alert: The solution is equipped with AI-powered detection functions and can instantly send an alert to users when intrusion is detected, helping to minimize loss and damage.

But it should also be pointed out that the solution is environmental and energy-saving, in keeping with Dahua’s green vision. “The Integrated Solar-powered Solution plays a significant role in energy conservation and emission reduction. It can reduce energy consumption, save resources, and provide reliable energy options for sustainable development,” a Dahua Technology Product Manager said. “As all of us know, solar energy is a renewable energy source that is widely available and free of charge. By utilizing solar energy, natural resources can be saved and the environmental damage caused by energy extraction can be reduced. It is estimated that with every 10,000 solar cameras, 1.0512 million kWh of electricity can be saved per year.”

Conclusion

Dahua has long been known as a world-leading video-centric AIoT solution and service provider, but it hasn’t forgotten its role as a responsible corporate citizen. To contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment, Dahua has launched various green initiatives and rolled out green products, including D-Volt and the Integrated Solar-powered Solution. Amid calls on vendors and manufacturers to play a more important role in environmental protection, Dahua indeed has been quite proactive in this regard.
