Greener offices: the low-carbon thinking at the heart of Hikvision’s day-to-day operations

Greener offices: the low-carbon thinking at the heart of Hikvision’s day-to-day operations
Green thinking lies at the heart of Hikvision’s product innovations, but it is also fundamental to how the company operates. At Hikvision, they have been implementing a series of ‘Green Office' initiatives throughout the organization.
Being a global organization brings with it certain responsibilities. Hikvision understands how important it is to ensure that sustainability efforts – such as green and environmental protection, energy saving and emission reduction – are adopted at the heart of our day-to-day operations.

Green thinking lies at the heart of Hikvision’s product innovations, but it is also fundamental to how the company operates. At Hikvision, we have been implementing a series of ‘Green Office' initiatives throughout the organization.

Greener footprint in daily office operation

In our office parks, a new energy management system is reducing electricity consumption by 10%. This is thanks to intelligent devices, equipped with optical character recognition (OCR) technology, which automatically collect electricity-meter readings from various locations. The data is then aggregated into an energy management system to inform and refine our energy-saving measures.

Another important initiative is a significant upgrade to the servers used by our R&D facilities. By boosting operating efficiency, and reducing the carbon footprint of physical servers, this project is designed to cut electricity consumption by nearly 5,000 MWh, and carbon emissions by nearly 4,000 tons, per year.

In addition to advocating for energy conservation, Hikvision also actively promotes a paperless office environment through practices such as online meetings, e-materials, and e-signatures. By simplifying and standardizing workflows, we have significantly reduced paper usage.

Sustainable design in office park construction

Hikvision is committed to building sustainable office parks. When designing and building our parks as the company continues its expansion, we control the total amount of stormwater runoff and improve the way rainwater is purified. To optimize the utilization of water resources, we create a range of resources including sunken green spaces and rainwater collection pools.

We also use healthy, green, and eco-friendly materials for decorating our office parks. In order to save natural resources, we use artificial stones and prefabricated wall panel systems.

Generally, we favour the use of steel structures and recyclable materials to reduce environmental pollution caused by waste.
