Product test: Hikvision explosion-proof thermographic IP bullet camera tested
Hikvision has released their DS-2TD2537T series explosion-proof thermographic network bullet camera that can output quality video even in harsh environments. This article takes a closer look, based on product tests conducted by a&s China.
In industrial settings, cameras must be able to withstand heat and see through harsh conditions to capture video well. To this end, Hikvision has released their DS-2TD2537T series explosion-proof thermographic network bullet camera that can output quality video even in harsh environments. This article takes a closer look, based on product tests conducted by a&s China.

In chemical refineries and other critical facilities, high temperature, high pressure, corrosion, oxidation and other factors often present risk. In order to detect various problems caused by high temperature as early as possible, thermal imaging cameras are increasingly used in petroleum, chemical, refinery and other scenarios. Yet false alarms still happen from time to time due to heat emitted by large machinery or vehicles.

To this end, Hikvision has launched the DS-2TD2537T series explosion-proof thermographic network bullet camera (hereinafter referred to as “thermal camera”), leveraging years of technology accumulation and understanding of users. Slightly different from competing products, the thermal camera uses a stainless steel shell and anti-corrosion coating to withstand various harsh conditions. Its thermal imaging lens can measure the temperature of different objects. It is worth noting that the camera can automatically rule out forklift and mirror reflection to ensure the accuracy of the alarm and further improve product reliability.

Solid as rock

As a video capturing device in explosion-prone scenarios such as refinery, oil fields, power plants and new energy battery warehouses, the thermal camera is made of stainless steel and has an overall small size. Due to the integrated design, the camera is more convenient to install and maintain, and has stronger adaptability to the environment. In addition, the product adopts a fully sealed design, bringing the protection level to IP68 which effectively meets the stringent requirements for explosion-prone settings.

The top of the camera is a sunshade, which can reduce the impact of direct sunlight and rain interference. The front of the camera includes a thermal imaging sensor, IR fill light and a visible light camera unit. It is worth noting that the device adopts an integrated bullet design which effectively ensures the safety and stability of internal electronic accessories. The front end adopts a sealing ring design, and 8 stainless steel screws are used to effectively fix the camera, guaranteeing its stability and reliability. A micro SD card slot is designed into the camera, supporting a maximum of 256GB to ensure no video data will be lost in case of poor network environment.

On the back of the camera are various interfaces such as power cord, alarm input/output and network cable. The various standardized interfaces make the camera suitable for various schemes or scenarios. In addition, the camera has also received standard certifications such as Ex db IIC T6 Gb and Ex td IIIC T80°C Db.

Advanced thermal, visible light capabilities

The camera is mainly composed of a thermal imaging unit and a visible light unit.

In terms of visible light, it is equipped with a 4MP starlight 1/2.7” progressive scan CMOS, which can output good and stable color video even in starlight conditions. The main video stream carries maximum resolution of 2688×1520 at 30fps; for sub-stream, the maximum resolution is 1920×1080 at 30fps.

Meanwhile, the visible light unit also supports ultra-wide dynamic range, backlight compensation, strong light suppression, 3D noise reduction, anti-shake and other functions, ensuring effective capturing in various indoor and outdoor ultra-low illumination environments, 24-7.

In addition, a&s tests show that the visible light unit can maintain good color video capturing in 0.0005 Lux conditions. At 0 Lux, the infrared fill light is automatically turned on, and the camera can cover a 30-meter range.

In terms of thermal imaging, the camera uses a vanadium oxide uncooled detector with a resolution of 384×288, which has the advantages of high precision and good anti-interference. At the same time, the detector is equipped with a 10mm 90°(H) ×65.4°(V) super wide-angle lens. With the support of a large field of view of 90°, one DS-2TD2537T thermal camera can cover an area of 100 square meters.

In order to avoid visual fatigue caused by a single color, the camera is equipped with 15 different pseudo-color visual effects to effectively correct this issue.

It is worth noting that the camera can perform visible light and thermal imaging dual-light fusion, which allows the user to quickly pinpoint problematic spots and gain insights into a high-temperature area in real time. Hikvision’s uncooled vanadium oxide detector technology allows the sensor to measure the temperature of the target scene with a margin of error of about ±2°C.

In addition, due to the particularity of an industrial setting, the camera can perform pyrotechnic recognition/detection, smoke detection, intrusion detection and forklift false alarm detection. It’s important to note that in conventional thermography, minute differences in temperature will make objects look similar. To avoid this problem, the camera adopts dual-light fusion technology, which can automatically mark the outline of the object. Even if only the thermal camera is used, objects in the video can still be clearly distinguished.

Based on its unique imaging capability, the camera can detect objects and the environment no matter day or night. a&s tests show that the device can effectively identify a vehicle within 92 meters and a fire point within 20 meters. It can also measure the temperature of objects within a range of 0.5-5 meters in real time.

Features:

1. Advanced thermal imaging allows the camera to be used in night, rain, fog and other conditions to make up for the insufficiencies of visible light camera;

2. Issuance of alarm upon detection of fire points and intrusion by suspicious people/vehicles, and automatically filtering out forklift or mirror reflection to improve the accuracy of alarm;

3. Can detect and identify a vehicle at a distance of 92 meters and a fire point at a distance of 20 meters, and can measure the temperature of objects within a range of 0.5-5 meters;

4. With the super wide-angle lens, the camera can effectively cover an area of 100 square meters.

a&s review:

With China’s rapid industrial development, manufacturers/operators have put forward more stringent requirements for equipment usage and operation to ensure personnel safety.

Hikvision’s DS-2TD2537T series explosion-proof thermographic network bullet camera has advanced thermal imaging capabilities and is well protected against explosion, ensuring good video image output even in harsh conditions.

The camera can perform pyrotechnic recognition/detection, smoke detection, intrusion detection and forklift reflection detection. This effectively reduces false alarms and well protects lives and properties, especially in end user organizations such as oil fields, coal mines, chemical plants and incinerators.
