Taiwanese manufacturers are leveraging Made-in Taiwan SoCs to develop customized and innovative solutions for their customers.
Citing reasons such as the NDAA, unstable reliability or overseas SoC shortages that became choke points in the global supply chain for surveillance devices, many Taiwanese companies have made/reaffirmed their decision to stay local and work with Taiwanese (MIT) semiconductor manufacturers for their products. Of course, supporting the local industry is a benefit. But Taiwanese manufacturers are leveraging SoCs to develop customized and innovative solutions for their customers.
Deeplet Industries
"Deeplet is an MIT supplier (OEM/ODM) that is US-NDAA compliant. Our solutions are secure and we offer stable delivery to our customers. We are the direct authorized partner of Novatek for SoC solutions. They are the chipset supplier for Deeplet’s full range of solutions – HDVR, NVR, IP cameras and mobile DVRs. This year, we are the only suppliers at the show using Novatek’s latest 3
rd generation SoC in our 16-channel HDVR which is currently in production and will be available soon,” said Charlie Yu, Account Manager for
Deeplet Technology. Also on display at Secutech 2022 are Deeplet's 64-channel NVR, firmware, AI cameras, cloud and CMS platform.
According to Lilian Yao, Global Sales Director for Deeplet Technology, most of Deeplet’s customers are distributors and integrators who ask for customized, innovative solutions. This is where the company’s ability in SDK integration support and technical know-how comes in. “Customers may already have surveillance NVR, hybrid or mobile DVR but they seek our help with integrating all these disparate systems. Our IT department would work with the customers to develop the SDK to enable the features they need. For example, access control devices – intercoms, video door phones and fire alarms or mobile DVRs monitoring driver behavior, these devices produce different signals and data which we can integrate with our recorder and connect to a remote platform to trigger alarms and alert operators. We can provide 100 percent SDK support to our customers,” said Yao.
For Deeplet, firmware has been their focus for research and development in the past few years. "Software and cloud are relatively easier to develop because of coding. Designing and customizing solutions actually starts with firmware which is embedded. You have to find the right chipset that will enable the features asked for and find the balance between price and functionality," added Yao.
Hunt Electronic
“Hunt uses SoC from Taiwan manufacturers like Novatek. We’re using 100 percent MIT chipsets to support AI functions onboard our cameras. We have trained AI models for different applications ranging from human detection, vehicle detection and license plate recognition,” said Mike Yang, Project Manager for
Hunt Electronic.
Everything from the design, AI research and development to the manufacturing of Hunt's products and solutions are all based in Taiwan, enabling the company to easily customize its solutions to address specific customer needs. "For example, Hunt has 4G/5G outdoor AI wireless cameras that work without internet connection, accessible via mobile app and connected to a backend NVR or CMS. The Taipei police department has already installed 200 such cameras to monitor Taipei city,” shared Yang. He also highlighted an interesting use case for their thermal cameras. Other than being used to monitor hazardous, explosive environments such as oil and gas or industrial sites, these have also been used in the zoo to monitor the health of the animals being cared for.
A highlight for Secutech this year is Hunt's AI transportation solution which features interval-based speed camera features, which can calculate the speed it takes for cars to travel between two locations. This can aid law and traffic officials to enforce traffic speed regulations and catch speeding cars.
3S System Technology
3S actually started out as a mobile software developer who leveraged its expertise with software development into the security industry. “We have partnered with a local Taiwanese IC/semiconductor manufacturer for SoCs used in our devices. 3S has been very focused on developing our software and AI capabilities these past few years. Our cameras have AI analytics onboard, capable of human detection, temperature monitoring," said Carol Chen, Senior Manager, Marketing,
3S System Technology. "3S is also quite known for our CMS and ASCM platform which are suitable for large-scale projects, integrating different systems into one software platform for central management. Users can view digital maps, use it to monitor camera status, view images, etc.”
They have adapted their products for various verticals, with solutions for smart thermal (with people counting, alarm and line crossing features), smart factory with fire detection, smart hospital and smart education applications. “Smart transportation is a strength of ours as hardware, design, software applications, AI analytics are all bundled up in one solution that can easily be adapted for use in various scenarios.”
