Axis: Demand for security still high in U.S.

With security demands in the U.S. strong as ever, Axis Communications offers a range of solutions that reflect the latest security technology trends in the market.

According to Fredrik Nilsson, VP of Americas at Axis Communications, a combination of factors, including the increasing availability of integrated solutions, simple deployment and advanced technology, is driving demand for security, which he says is still a necessary investment in the U.S.

“The demand for security solutions in the U.S. remains high in 2020. As security technology continues to advance and integrate additional capabilities, customers will continue to invest in the latest technology or upgrade their existing systems,” Nilsson said. “There are more use cases for security solutions than ever before, and with the introduction of better analytics along with new IP devices in audio, security has become an integral part of any organization. While the security solutions that end users are investing in may evolve, the need to invest in security solutions will remain strong.”

Analytics a ‘disruptor’ in security

Beyond security, end users in the U.S. are also increasingly using security for non-security purposes. This trend is in part driven by analytics, which in the past were more of an afterthought in the US market but is now getting more advanced and has found its way into various security devices, including cameras.

“Analytics will continue to be a disruptor in the security industry. It is an area that we as an industry have been working to deliver on, but now more than ever we are seeing real progress in the area of predictive analytics. Deep learning is changing the game and propelling the analytics evolution forward,” Nilsson said. “At Axis, we have worked for many years to bring analytics to the security market with smart edge-based video applications. When integrated with deep learning capabilities, cameras become intelligent solutions capable of influencing countless aspects of business operations.”

Examples of benefits analytics on the edge can bring are wide-ranging. For instance, factories can use edge analytics to check production lines and instantly find faults or defects on products. Gyms can use edge analytics to help users exercise more effectively. Retail and healthcare are especially industries where users can benefit from analytics.

“Many retail clients use heat mapping capabilities to determine the store layout that will encourage higher sale conversions, and healthcare facilities are using analytics and thermal cameras to monitor patients throughout the day allowing nurses to respond to issues quicker,” Nilsson said.

Other prevailing trends

Other prevalent trends in the U.S. cited by Nilsson are cloud and storage. “In the security industry the cloud is another area are we are seeing prevail. It is necessary for ensuring products are cyber compliant, running on up-to-date software and fully accessible from remote locations on mobile devices – all of which are driven by end user needs and expectations,” he said. “Of course, as data and imagine capabilities advance so does storage. End users are looking to store much more for longer periods of time and advances like Axis’ Zipstream technology has helped us comply to customer needs.”

That said, Axis has a variety of solutions that reflect these trends. These include the AXIS C8210 Network Audio Amplifier, 2N LTE Verso and AXIS Live Privacy Shield – demonstrating the latest technology available in network cameras, access control and advanced imaging. Solutions with advanced detection and analytic capabilities are also available.
