Public sector, critical infrastructure: key verticals in the Adriatic market

Public sector, critical infrastructure: key verticals in the Adriatic market
Respondents interviewed for our Adriatic market report highlighted critical infrastructure and the public sector as the most prominent verticals in the Adriatic region, followed by transport, tourism, banking and retail.
Respondents interviewed for our Adriatic market report highlighted critical infrastructure and the public sector as the most prominent verticals in the Adriatic region, followed by transport, tourism, banking and retail.

Đorđe Bačić, Business Development Manager at Vivotek, said EU enlargement and transport links with the Middle East were the main reason for the implementation of high-value projects, with Bosch and Sony representatives also putting critical infrastructure in the first place.

Borislava Kenarova, Sales Manager,
Central and Eastern Europe,
Milestone
“The greatest progress in 2018 was in the government sector, transportation and critical infrastructure, we had many important projects in city surveillance, borders, public transportation and also in education and production,” said Borislava Kenarova, Sales Manager for Central and Eastern Europe at Milestone

Andrej Curakovic, Regional Sales Director for the Balkans and Middle Europe at Avigilon, is of almost the same opinion: "The greatest progress is visible in securing high-risk facilities, the banking and transport sectors, as well as with the positive growth trend involving state institutions, the police and the army."

According to Marco Grasselli, Regional Manager South-Eastern Europe at ComNet, verticals with the highest growth were power plants, transport and public video surveillance. One of ComNet’s most important projects in 2018 was the one done for the Petroleum Industry of Serbia with the help of their regional partner Alarm Automatika.

Protection of critical infrastructure, such as airports, ports, dams, oil, gas and power plants was also quoted by the FLIR representatives as a vertical in which the company could make a difference.

In the case of Axis, while almost all market growth was spread equally among countries and verticals, “smart cities, critical infrastructure, traffic and retail” were the verticals in which they were the most successful. Among the projects featuring their solutions, including video surveillance, video analytics and IP audio, notable mentions were one involving almost all regional Lidl supermarkets, as well as a large fire control project with the Croatian Forests Ltd.

In addition to state institutions and strategic high-security facilities (airports, border crossings, electric, gas and plumbing facilities), Dahua ended 2018 with successful projects implemented in verticals such as banking, manufacturing, retail and sports venues in 2018.

ATEÏS Europe worked on hotel projects, highways and shopping malls, while Cambium Networks indicated that business projects with telecommunication service providers were continually growing, alongside projects involving video surveillance in cities and small scale users.

It is important to point out that not all verticals are equally represented in all countries, as Antun Krešimir Buterin from Hikvision reminds us. According to him, the diversity in the Adriatic region and the Balkans made it impossible to put them all under the same umbrella. “For example, I can mention transport projects in Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, safe city projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, industrial and banking projects in Slovenia, tourism projects in Croatia and Montenegro, sports projects in Serbia, retail projects in Croatia.”
