At the end of last year, Motorola Solutions announced another acquisition. This time it was Rave Mobile Safety, a provider of mass notification and incident management solutions. This note takes a closer look at the deal.
Motorola Solution, which ranks No. 5 on asmag.com’s Security 50 ranking, is certainly no stranger to acquisitions. Since 2018 the company has acquired a slew of video surveillance companies, including Avigilon,
IndigoVision,
Pelco, Envysion and
Ava Security. It also acquired Openpath Security in 2021, adding an access control brand to its portfolio.
In December 2022, Motorola Solutions made another acquisition. This time it was a company outside the video surveillance and access control realm – Rave Mobile Safety. Based in Framingham, Massachusetts, the company is a provider of mass notification and incident management solutions that help organizations and public safety agencies communicate and collaborate during emergencies.
“Rave offers a cloud-native, customizable platform to support emergency coordination. Users can effectively communicate operational updates and alerts, such as health emergencies, lockdowns and evacuations, so people are better informed to take appropriate action. Users can receive messages via a large number of modalities, including mobile apps, within seconds,” said Todd Piett, VP of Rave Mobile Safety at Motorola Solutions.
“Additionally,” he added, “the Rave panic button solution can immediately provide real-time incident details and essential data like location to 9-1-1 call takers and first responders, and its incident management solution helps to coordinate the emergency response across all those involved, including security personnel and first responders.”
Piett further notes that the platform is used by and especially suitable for any entity taking responsibility for the state of others; this includes federal agencies, state and local governments and enterprises, including hospitals and thousands of K-12 schools and higher education institutions.
Why the deal makes sense
According to Piett, the acquisition of Rave Mobile Safety by Motorola Solutions makes sense. “The Rave Mobile Safety platform … is designed to help individuals, businesses and public safety agencies better communicate and collaborate in emergencies. After recognition of an incident using Motorola Solutions’ video security cameras embedded with AI-powered analytics, Rave’s solutions can help rapidly communicate the incident to the right people and facilitate a faster and more effective response across all involved parties,” he said.
The Rave platform will now be integrated into Motorola Solutions’ technology portfolio which already includes access control, video security, body-worn cameras, critical communications, command center software and weapons detection solutions. According to Piett, Rave Mobile Safety will complement Motorola Solutions well.
