Company names new Director of Business Development and VP of Engineering

Brivo Systems, a provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications for security management, appointed two new positions in its sales and engineering departments.

Daniel Abernathy has been named Director of Business Development. Abernathy will be responsible for sales in the Eastern Region of the U.S. and Canada, and will spearhead the company's expanding federal sales strategy.

“Based on Brivo's continuing leadership position in Software-as-a-Service for security management systems, we need proven leaders with broad expertise to help us expand and grow in new directions and markets,” said John Szczygiel, Executive VP of Business Development. “Dan's extensive background with multinational organizations as well as in high-tech environments is perfect to assist us in achieving the continued growth that we're looking for.”

Abernathy's 20-year career in the IT industry has included executive and strategic marketing positions with IT integration as well as global manufacturing companies. Most recently, Abernathy was the VP of Sales and Marketing for MicroAutomation, an integrator of contact center solutions.

Chris Valas has also joined Brivo in the position of VP of Engineering. Valas brings more than 25 years experience in software development, operations, and management — including numerous successes in product development and scaling engineering capacity for mid-stage ventures. Valas was most recently VP of Technology at EKO Systems, a health care information technology developer. He has also held executive leadership roles at a variety of privately held software companies.

“Chris will be vital in leading our product development team as we seek to enhance our current offerings, expand into new markets, and build a custom development capability to meet the unique needs of our growing customer base,” said Steven Van Till, President and CEO. “In that capacity, he will be responsible for all engineering resources in the company going forward.”

This year marks Brivo's 10th anniversary as a technology leader and has been a pivotal one in the company's history. As a SaaS company in the security industry, Brivo has positioned itself in 2009 for the increased adoption of SaaS that is taking place in virtually all industries. Organizational changes such as the acquisition of talent and experience that both Valas and Abernathy bring are the key to continued success as the company enters its second decade. Brivo is poised for continued growth in 2010, with a world-class organization delivering innovation to the security industry.
