Hikvision onboard camera receives ITxPT certification, supporting smarter public transport operations

Hikvision onboard camera receives ITxPT certification, supporting smarter public transport operations
Hikvision, a global leader in the AI-powered Internet of Things (AIoT), has announced that its Dual-Lens Passenger Counting Camera has officially received ITxPT (Information Technology for Public Transport) certification.
Hikvision, a global leader in the AI-powered Internet of Things (AIoT), has announced that its Dual-Lens Passenger Counting Camera has officially received ITxPT (Information Technology for Public Transport) certification. This milestone marks a significant step forward in Hikvision's commitment to smarter, more connected, and more interoperable public transportation systems.

As one of the most widely recognized standards in the European public transportation industry, ITxPT focuses on onboard IT architecture, interoperability, and data standardization. The certification confirms that Hikvision’s Dual-Lens Passenger Counting Camera (DS-2XM6825G1) integrates smoothly with ITxPT-compliant onboard systems and can deliver standardized passenger flow data for bus and rail transit applications. This helps public transport operators build more unified and efficient systems, even when using devices from different manufacturers.

Addressing safety blind spots and patchy data—two challenges public transport can't ignore

The certification comes at a time when public transport operators are facing increasing pressure to improve both passenger safety and operational efficiency. Many traditional onboard systems, for example, struggle with limited visibility inside vehicles and incomplete passenger flow data. As a result, many operators face challenges in route planning, vehicle scheduling, capacity management, and service optimization.

Hikvision’s Dual-Lens Passenger Counting Camera helps address these challenges by providing accurate passenger flow statistics at vehicle doors and transit passageways. The solution supports data display and export based on buses, routes, and stops, helping operators better understand passenger traffic patterns and make more informed operational decisions.

A smarter way to count passengers

The camera includes many features designed for real transit environments:
  • Advanced perception: Using dual-lens stereo vision, the camera reconstructs a 3D view of the scene—much like how human eyes perceive depth. It accurately identifies not just people, but also strollers, bicycles, and wheelchairs, giving operators a comprehensive, real-time overview of the boarding activity.

  • 98%+ counting accuracy: The camera detects each person from the moment they appear in frame and only registers a count when they fully enter or exit—filtering out people who pause or linger near the door.

  • Flexible installation: The adjustable mounting bracket supports a minimum installation height of just 1.9 meters, making it compatible with a wide range of vehicle types—from city buses to metro carriages and articulated coaches.

  • Broad protocol support: In addition to ITxPT, the camera supports multiple streaming formats, door signal integration, and a range of protocols including ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum), RS-485, and Hikvision SDK, ensuring smooth integration into existing fleet management systems.

  • Built for the road: With an IP66 and IK08 protection rating and an operating temperature range of -30°C to 75°C, the camera is built to handle the demands of real-world transit environments.

“Receiving the ITxPT certification demonstrates Hikvision’s commitment to open standards and long-term compatibility in the public transportation industry,” said Jake Song, Onboard Security Product Director at Hikvision. “Public transport operators need reliable and standardized data to support smarter decisions. This certification helps ensure our onboard solution can integrate more efficiently into multi-vendor transport systems.”

With the ITxPT certification, Hikvision further strengthens its ability to support transportation operators seeking standardized, scalable, and data-driven onboard solutions. The certification also creates broader opportunities for deployment in European transit projects, where ITxPT compliance is often a key requirement for system integration and project approval.
