With the rapid development of intelligent transportation, accurately detecting traffic incidents and improving response efficiency have become key for operators. To this end, Hikvision has launched a new generation of traffic incident detection products based on their “Guanlan” large-scale models. This article takes a closer look at the products, based on testing by a&s China.
Comprehensive products, from edge to backend
Hikvision's new incident detection series includes the all-in-one radar-camera system (iDS-TCS802-HS-L), incident detection camera (iDS-TCS800-H), and incident detection terminal (iDS-TSS300-H)/server (iDS-TSS500-H).
The radar-camera system is a device that integrates radar technology and high-definition video, designed for all-weather and complex environments. Combining a high-precision millimeter-wave radar and an 8-megapixel CMOS low-light camera, the system can switch between different modes such as event detection, campus testing and road warning. Its various intelligent functions, including parking violation detection, lane crossing/lane change recognition, and pedestrian monitoring make it suitable for a wide range of applications.
The incident detection camera is an 8-megapixel high-definition intelligent traffic camera. Its industrial-grade metal body and modular structure ensure optimal heat dissipation and impact resistance. It is dustproof, waterproof, and surge-proof, making it suitable for a variety of complex traffic scenarios. Equipped with a starlight-grade sensor and intelligent fill-light technology, the camera can clearly capture license plates and other objects even at night. Specifically, its built-in deep learning algorithm supports license plate recognition and full object structurization, accurately detecting traffic events such as lane crossing and wrong-way driving.
The incident detection terminal supports simultaneous connection to multiple cameras and can perform various tasks such as traffic incident detection, video quality diagnosis, and road defect identification. In particular, the device can identify road defects such as cracks and potholes, as well as detect facility anomalies such as damaged guardrails and missing traffic signs, giving road safety a significant boost.
The incident detection server is powered by deep learning algorithms, allowing the server to identify illegal parking, road damage and spilled objects, among others. The server also supports traffic parameter collection, video structure analysis and video quality diagnosis, making it especially well-suited for urban traffic scenarios.
Leveraging the powers of ‘Guanlan’
Conventional traffic incident detection algorithms rely on manually labeled data, resulting in high false alarm rates in complex scenarios such as when it rains or when vehicles cross lanes at night. Hikvision's incident detection products leverage the Transformer architecture under Guanlan, which offers various benefits summarized as follows:
1. Global feature extraction capabilities: Compared to traditional convolutional networks, large-scale models based on the Transformer architecture provide more accurate identification of incidents such as spillage and illegal parking, eliminating interferences from tree shadows, water stains, road markings, and signs. In parking detection, large-scale models accurately distinguish between parked vehicles and slow-moving vehicles and use parameters such as vehicle dwell time and deviation from lane lines to make comprehensive judgments, significantly reducing false positives.
2. Multimodal fusion perception: Integrating millimeter-wave radar and AI image processing technology, the radar-camera system can detect illegally parked vehicles in seconds and can detect motor vehicles within a 350-meter range.
3. Continuous algorithm evolution and upgrade: The system supports pre-training of algorithms using industry knowledge. Our tests have shown that once large-scale models are applied, the accuracy of defect detection (cracks and potholes) is significantly improved.
Compatibility with new and existing projects
Hikvision's incident detection products support various protocols including ISAPI, GB28181, and SDK, enabling integration with mainstream platforms in seconds. The server supports on-demand expansion of storage and computing modules. The edge devices focus on real-time incident detection, while the backend handles multi-source data correlation. This ensures low-latency response and demonstrates significant advantages in highly complex scenarios. The terminal/server seamlessly integrates with existing camera systems and storage devices, enabling reuse of legacy resources. Whether for new projects or retrofitting legacy systems, the series demonstrates strong compatibility and flexibility.
