Product Testing: Hikvision Guanlan AI Camera for Perimeter Security

Product Testing: Hikvision Guanlan AI Camera for Perimeter Security
Hikvision has launched their perimeter camera powered by the company’s own Guanlan large-model AI, which provides users with a more reliable perimeter security solution. We tested Hikvision’s new Guanlan AI camera for perimeter security. See how it reduces false alarms and improves night detection.
Monitoring complex and challenging environments with conventional perimeter cameras can be quite frustrating: a fallen leaf drifts by, the alarm sounds; a stray cat passes by, the alarm sounds; even a reflection of the sun can trigger false alarms. To address these pain points, Hikvision has launched their perimeter camera powered by the company’s own Guanlan large-model AI, which is highly accurate and provides users with a more reliable perimeter security solution. This article examines the camera, based on testing conducted by a&s China.

Cutting-edge hardware and software

The camera comes with a high impact protection level (making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor usage), wide temperature design, dual power supply mode, excellent imaging capabilities and built-in large-model algorithm. In particular, the use of the large-model AI allows the camera to accurately distinguish between people/cars/other objects. Based on intensive data training, the AI can effectively filter out interferences such as leaves falling and light flickering, greatly reducing false alarms.

Superb imaging capability

The camera is equipped with a 1/1.8” high-sensitivity sensor and built-in F1.0 large-aperture lens, which allow superb lowlight color capturing. In actual testing, the camera can capture clear full-color images in dark environments, accurately detect human bodies/vehicles far away, and successfully detect intruders climbing over walls at night. No false alarms were triggered during the tests.

Superior imaging aside, the camera also allows a longer detection range. For conventional perimeter cameras, the coverage distance is limited to only 20-30 meters. Hikvision’s perimeter camera, on the other hand, can achieve small-pixel target detection and effectively detect objects in a 5-65-meter range.

In actual testing, we installed the camera near a river and found that it could accurately filter out a variety of interferences, such as wild cats, flying birds and falling leaves, greatly reducing false alarms. It should be noted that conventional perimeter cameras often misjudge falling plastic bags as "intruders,” and this is not the case with the Hikvision camera. Even if there is a certain amount of water reflection on the ground, the camera can still accurately identify intruders trying to destroy a fence, and issue an alarm accordingly.

Product features

  • High detection accuracy, false alarms reduced by more than 90 percent: With the Guanlan large-model AI, people/cars/other objects can be accurately distinguished. Based on intensive data training, interferences such as leaf falling or light flickering can be effectively filtered out, greatly improving the accuracy of alarms;
  • Longer coverage distance: Coverage of 5-65 meters is allowed by the camera, which can be integrated with voice speakers from which operators can talk down to intruders and scare them away;
  • Full-color high-definition imaging in all-weather conditions: Using a high-sensitivity sensor, an F1.0 large-aperture lens and AI-ISP image processing technology, the camera can accurately detect people/vehicles within a range of 60 meters in dark environments and other challenging conditions.

Four cutting-edge models to choose from

Hikvision's Guanlan perimeter camera includes four models, namely the single-lens model, the three-lens model, the single-lens dome model, and the full-color TandemVu PTZ model.

The single-lens model provides a cost-effective perimeter security solution with a coverage distance of 5-65 meters, ColorVu 2.0 technology and built-in voice speakers. The model is ideal for logistics parks, residential areas, schools and airports.

The three-lens model extends coverage to 100 meters on a single device and 120 meters with a built-in infrared fill light. The built-in red and blue siren and a 6w large speaker make deterrence more powerful. The electric micro-pan-tilt design makes the device easier to install without integrators having to repeatedly climb poles.

The single-lens dome model increases coverage distance to more than 200 meters and can effectively track people/objects, making it an ideal perimeter security solution for places such as transportation hubs, airports, highways and large warehouses.

The full-color TandemVu PTZ model builds on the dome model and offers full-color, panoramic views with great detail. It can be used as an effective, intelligent perimeter security solution that can be applied to places such as squares, intersections, large parks, airports and harbors.

a&s review

Hikvision’s large-model perimeter camera is not just a simple technical upgrade – it’s also a solution that takes security a step closer to the goal of "zero false alarms.” The camera can be used in security and non-security applications, allowing users to more effectively monitor perimeters, dispatch personnel and even gain business intelligence. It is said that when security cameras begin to "understand" the scene, the world becomes a quieter place. The camera is a manifestation of that.
