ISC West interview: IDIS showcases full lineup of high-performance video and AI solutions

ISC West interview: IDIS showcases full lineup of high-performance video and AI solutions
Company delivers next-generation U.S.-Korean technology including edge AI cameras, Live Privacy Masking and I-Mobile solutions for mass transit applications.
IDIS Americas had a bigger presence at ISC West this year with an expanded range of high-quality, Korean and U.S.-origin technologies and a comprehensive lineup of new products to bolster its end-to-end, AI-enhanced video surveillance solutions.

A major draw for visitors was IDIS’s new Edge AI Camera Plus range which offers users a host of tools to improve real-time surveillance operations and footage search-and-playback.

“We have edge AI cameras that have gained significant interest from people who are passing through to look at the booth and what we have to offer,” said Scott Switzer, President and CEO of IDIS Americas while speaking to asmag.com. “And so no longer is it line crossing or something like that on the edge. We're talking about being able to find everybody with a blue shirt or a hat or glasses or, you know, whatever it is. And so that really is, that really is compelling.”

Live Privacy Masking and other interesting technologies

Visitors to ISC West also got an exclusive first look at IDIS’s patented Live Privacy Masking technology, which allows more accurate, reliable, and responsive real-time video surveillance, while protecting individuals’ identities. This important innovation uses deep learning technology to improve the quality and usability of privacy masked footage to assist live surveillance operations.

Also on display at the show was the I-Mobile solution for mass transit applications that builds on IDIS’s 20-year track record pioneering video surveillance technology for transit services including private and public bus fleets – a market IDIS highly prioritizes in North America.

“IDIS is heavily going into that market. So in the transit when the buses roll into the stations, data is transferred from the buses to the center. The same thing with forklifts, right? Same concept of it goes into certain area to recharge, or whatever it is, and offloads the data. So again, we're able to use it in multiple spaces,” Switzer said. “It's using the IDIS product that has tremendous reliability. When you put it on to moving vehicles, of course, there's a lot of vibration and that sort of thing, but the IDIS reliability really allows us to succeed in those markets.”

Partnership with Vaidio

IDIS also showcased a strong lineup of solutions for the education (K12) sector, including robust video intercoms for secure and efficient access control, and weapons detection surveillance powered by IDIS Vaidio AI analytics, a powerful AI solution which offers a broad range of highly accurate automated detection and alert functions.

“We're excited about the new partnership with Vaidio, and just having the new ability now to have more of those analytic features that are more advanced, obviously. And we talked about, you know, the positioning of people and you know what they're doing, or using their behavior patterns to drive that business intelligence, to make better, more informed, proactive decisions for your company, to not only protect people, but to enhance businesses too,” said Dave deLisser, VP of Product Management at IDIS Americas, also during the interview.

Comprehensive retail solutions; impact of tariffs remains to be seen

For applications for retail – IDIS’s strongest sector – the company showcased its comprehensive choice of video technologies proven to reduce losses and boost profitability. With the latest AI functionality, IDIS end-to-end solutions include the widest choice of cameras, recorders, and VMS to help retailers of all sizes – from high-end and luxury stores to grocery chains – enhance operational efficiency and improve their customer experience, while helping to ensure security.

It’s worth noting that during ISC West 2025, the Trump administration announced sweeping reciprocal tariffs against various nations in the world. Most of these tariffs have been paused, while those against China have been raised to 125 percent. How the US retail sector will be affected remains to be seen.

“Speaking of retail and how has business been lately … at least in the retail vertical, you've seen lots of press releases, retailers being uncertain, consumers being pulling back on spending. So there's been a lot of uncertainty around what's going to happen with the tariffs,” Switzer said. “In all honesty, we're assessing what that looks like for us. You know what our response needs to be. It's something that everyone on this floor will have to deal with as an industry, other industries, and you know, we're going to have to look at the competitive landscape and what actions we need to take, in light of the recent announcements.”

Synergy from IDIS-Costar merger

Switzer and deLisser also spoke on the IDIS-COSTAR merger, completed in 2023, and touted the synergy created since, from products to sales to support.

“Because being part of IDIS, we've been able to bring in a lot of products they were selling in other parts of the world. They're manufacturing. We've been manufacturing. They didn't have them in North America before, and so customers are excited to see that broader range of products that they can now get from the West,” deLisser said.

“One of the things that I've been very impressed with is creating a true sales engineering team, not just field application engineers going out and helping customers, but a true sales engineering team that again worked on and brought us the video integration right and so delivering solutions that really makes a difference in our market and to our customers,” Switzer said.

“We have a larger organization now than we did a year and a half ago, when we were Costar Technologies. So we've increased that support to our customers, our end user, in addition to the support that we're getting from Korea,” he added. “So we're giving them more, and I think that's why they're okay with it.”
