With smart parking seeing an upward trend, Taiwan company 3S offers an array of smart parking solutions ranging from license plate recognition to smart vehicle search. This article takes a closer look.
Smart parking has become a trend for municipalities across the globe. Taiwan company 3S System Technology provides comprehensive smart parking solutions that make parking easier and more convenient. This article looks at the range of smart parking solutions that 3S has to offer.
3S was established in Taiwan in July 2005. With a business philosophy of integrity, honesty, innovation and service, the company aims to become a leader in smart systems. Core offerings include modules, equipment and systems, which have applications in rail, transportation and manufacturing.
The company is also a leading provider of smart parking solutions. Smart parking refers to the use of AI and IoT technologies to manage parking and improve the parking experience. With parking becoming more challenging in municipalities across the globe, city administrator and parking operators are turning to smart technologies to address parking challenges. Sensing this trend, 3S offers comprehensive smart parking solutions ranging from license plate recognition to smart vehicle search. Below we take a more detailed look at the solutions.
Smart ALPR system
ALPR stands for automatic license plate recognition. It employs video cameras to identify vehicles’ license plate numbers and has applications in various fields. In smart parking, a vehicle’s license plate number is recognized (the recognition process can take place either in the camera or at the backend) and stored in the system. With ALPR, the driver can enter the lot frictionless and, upon leaving, pay at the automatic pay machine just by entering the license plate number. That said, 3S offers advanced ALPR systems that enable fast and accurate plate recognition, effectively count traffic flow and usage rate, and make parking fee calculation mechanism accurate and reliable. “Our ALPR can control entry and exit of vehicles on multiple lanes with one single system, which can also integrate with 3S’s access control system,” said Kevin Cheng, Senior Manager for Sales and Marketing at 3S.
Parking guidance system and smart vehicle search
Once in the parking lot, the driver would be greatly assisted by a parking guidance system that visually informs the driver, via digital signage or red/green signals, of whether parking is still available in a particular row or on a particular floor. 3S has a guidance system that offers multiple guidance options, improves the safety of drivers and their vehicles, and provides a premium high-tech parking experience.
Also, smart vehicle search is another important aspect of smart parking. When leaving a mall or a large exhibition arena, nothing would be more annoying than not being able to locate the vehicle and spending a long time looking for it. To address this, 3S has a smart car search system that offers multiple smart ways to find the vehicle – either through the kiosk at the site or using an app on the smart device, making car search simple and convenient.
Automated payment system
Payment is the final part in the parking journey. Needless to say, manual payment, where the driver stops at a booth and pays to the parking attendant, can be quite cumbersome. 3S’s solution automates the process with an automatic payment system that saves on manpower, avoids congestion and provides card reader integration to ensure multiple payment methods.
According to Cheng, at this point 3S’s smart parking solutions would be more ideal for the Southeast Asia market. "Our system is relatively new, and the SI’s constant on-the-ground feedback is needed for us to help them customize. I think right now Southeast Asia is more suitable,” he said.
Cheng adds a final thought. “AI-assisted automation is the trend of the future. We hope that our solutions can make smart parking even more AIoT-driven,” he said.
