Gunnebo Entrance Control has completed the installation of advanced retail gates on-site at the University of Kent, enhancing security and efficiently managing people flow in the university's retail areas.

The University of Kent recognised the need to improve access control in its retail zones and chose Gunnebo Entrance Control for its expertise and innovative solutions. The installation included one powered retail gate, one manual gate, and associated barrier work, providing a comprehensive solution to manage entry and exit points effectively.

Gunnebo Entrance Control led the project, ensuring meticulous planning and execution, as Suzanne Lloyd, Retail Group Manager at Kent University explained: “Working with Gunnebo Entrance Control has been a positive experience. The installation was done really quickly with little disruption to staff or customers.”

The process began with a thorough site inspection and assessment to tailor the installation due to underfloor heating being present within the area. In line with health and safety requirements, the gates were then securely mounted on plinths, with barriers installed to guide foot traffic seamlessly.

Stewart Thomson, Building Surveyor at Kent University added: “My experience of working with Gunnebo Entrance Control was positive from start to finish; from the initial site survey through to design development and installation managed by the project manager, Chris James.”

One of the key challenges addressed during the installation was the integration of the automated gates with the fire alarm system, to ensure automatic opening in the event of emergencies, aligning with safety regulations.
Chris James, Project Manager at Gunnebo Entrance Control added: “Gunnebo's commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable security solutions was evident throughout the project. Our ability to listen and customise installations, including integration with fire safety, to meet client needs while ensuring compliance with safety standards underscores our position as a trusted security partner.”
