Definitely Win and iCATCH: solutions beyond security

Definitely Win (DWIN) is the parent company and exclusive distributor for iCATCH branded cameras. Together, they displayed a wide array of security solutions as well as for smart transportation, retail and smart building.

Definitely Win Smart retail solutions

The first smart retail solution on display is a vending machine with a built-in camera that can scan QR codes (or any alternative methods) for payment. The same camera can be used by retailers to also determine age and gender, which would be useful for vending machines selling cigarettes in Europe or alcohol in Japan. Additionally, a panic button can be added to call for help if necessary. This expands these use cases for smart dormitories, hotels or campuses as well.

“We are involved with the design of the chipset on the camera so there’s no need to go online. It’s all edge processing. For clients who want to connect to a cloud solution, we work with ThroughTek (TUTK), a Taiwan VSaaS solution provider. It’s easy for system integrators to set up and clients can pull up the video feed and get event alerts on their mobile phone or computer server,” said Benny Chen, Global Business Development Director for Definitely Win.

The second solution used a kiosk which was a result of a partnership with DigiSpace, a company whose focus is on augmented reality (AR) and location-based services. “The interactive kiosk would draw shoppers or visitors to the screen. As they interact with it, the camera on top can both monitor the site for security while display the correct marketing materials to them (for ex. according to age and gender). If an event occurs, there is video evidence and the security personnel can be alerted immediately,” said Chen.

Working both with system integrators who can do solution design and local support, the company also does OEM/ODM for overseas clients, especially in Japan, Korea and Singapore. “Our chipsets and cameras are all made in Taiwan so the data is much more secure. We are able to bring the cost down as well as customize the firmware, integration development. Our MOQ is not too high for startups or clients who want to try the solution. That’s where we find our business opportunities in the market,” shared Chen.

iCATCH fleet management and smart building solutions

A highlight this year is the iCatch car vision assistance and fleet management solution which targets bigger vehicles like trucks. The four-in-one car vision assistance system uses four camera feeds to improve visibility (might be expanded to 16 or 32 cameras in the future). It also features a Linux-based navigation screen device that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. According to Arlene Want, Marketing Manager, Sales Department for iCATCH, added features like the iCatch head-up display increases driver safety while the fleet management platform enables operators to monitor driver behavior and optimize their overall business operations. The Taoyuan fire department has already this in place to manage their fleet of fire trucks.

Wang also shared that iCatch also sees a growing market trend for smart lighting and energy especially post-Covid, thus introducing its ESG (Environmental, Socal and Governance) product line. Their APCO smart air purifier and antibacterial machine is portable so it can be used both indoors like homes and offices as well as cars. The smart lighting can be automated to dim or brighten as needed to save energy and costs as well as elevate tenant moods. This ofcourse can be connected to the iCatch smart building platform which acts as a central hub for data from sensors, devices and systems from the building facility and environment, enabling operators to use this data to control and automate building functions as well as notify personnel of any issues that needed to be addressed.

StarVedia – Taiwan OEM/ODM ability key to business

StarVedia is a local provider of video surveillance with more than 10 years of experience in the field. Its strength lies in their OEM/ODM capabilities, which allows them to partner with brands abroad, especially in Japan.

Highlighting a new array of security camera form factors ranging from fisheye, turret to varifocal cameras (from 2MP to 5MP resolution), StarVedia also announced the launch of their 2MP covert camera ideal for banking ATM monitoring applications. The mobile app is available on the PC, iPad and smartphones allows for remote live-view monitoring and push notifications to alert users when triggered by incidents such as a break-in or smoke is detected. Further integration with the StarVedia software platform enables AI functionality like people counting.
