The panel can be easily networked and is compatible with the Honeywell Connected Life Safety Services (CLSS)
Honeywell India has announced the launch of its latest Morley MAx fire detection and alarm system that uses technologies such as multi-Boolean logic and CANBus protocol between panels, helping enable faster communication. It features a 7-inch touch screen panel, providing a highly intuitive and ergonomic user interface. The panel displays color-coded events and graphical icons.
Speaking to asmag.com, Amit Kaushal, GM for Security & Fire, Honeywell Building Technologies in India, pointed out that the CANBus protocol was initially developed for automobile applications where a high-speed, reliable protocol for robust communication at higher bit rates is necessary. Bringing this to the fire safety application would enable Honeywell to ensure quicker decision-making in the event of a fire incident.
“The Boolean Logic is more like algebra where the results are results are calculated on the basis of true or false,” Kaushal added. “When there is an incident, the Boolean Logic and CANBus technology enables the panel to take the best decision at the fastest pace. This is extremely significant as the industry continues to struggle with high false alarms. This is the future we intend to bring.”
Ease of installation and integration
The panel can be easily networked and is compatible with the Honeywell Connected Life Safety Services (CLSS), an all-in-one cloud platform that enables system integrators and facilities managers to deliver an enhanced fire safety service while maximizing the performance efficiencies offered by Honeywell’s trusted detection and alarm systems.
Significantly for systems integrators, the new solution provides easy installation and is compatible with older products. A slew of features, ranging from those on the panel itself to its compatibility, is aimed at ensuring that the installers have an advantage when offering this solution to their customers.
“This is a multiprocessor fire detection system which is largely in the addressable space. It comes with different variants of a single loop, two loop, and four loops,” Kaushal said. “And the four loop is extendable up to eight loops within the same enclosure. There is where comes the ease which we are giving to the system indicators because largely when it gets into the world of expandability choose a lot of enclosures along with it.”
The advantage here is that in the same panel and in the same enclosure, you can expand not only the loops but also the power backup. In India, power is still an unreliable factor, and having an extended backup is a boon to installers and customers.
“The power backup can be extended within the enclosure itself from 24 hours to up to 72 hours,” Kaushal added. “We feel this would help integrators, especially as we go into the Tier-2 and Tier-3 areas where power may not be as reliable as large cities, and customers would require longer backup.”
The QWERTY keypad could also be beneficial as integrators implement all the programming from the panel itself. Since the panel is back-compatible, it can work with older detectors, modules, etc. This should help customers and integrators upgrade to the new panel without having to incur the large capital expenditure of replacing an entire system.
Targeting a range of verticals
The company also said that Morley MAx is well suited for operation in various verticals such as commercial, education, healthcare, residential, and hospitality. Its full backward compatibility makes it well suited for retrofit projects as it supports a range of field devices, including third-party manufacturer devices. The aesthetically pleasing panel delivers high-quality design in commercial or luxury environments.
“The verticals we target are premium commercial, vertical and horizontal buildings, which in which the panels can be back compatible as well as networkable,” Kaushal said. “We are targeting hospitals, hospitality, and medium to large premium commercial complexes. Also, the manufacturing industry is booming now with support from initiatives from the government. So, this is another vertical we will be targeting with these panels.”
Fire and safety are an integral part of infrastructure as India looks to fast forward its development across multiple verticals. Adopting new devices, solutions, and technology is inevitable for customers and integrators. Honeywell’s Morley MAx is an excellent example of an innovative device that they can consider as they move forward.
