Secutech Hybrid spotlights top-notch Taiwan video surveillance suppliers
Secutech Hybrid Online Exhibition, asmag.com’s sister and companion security tradeshow, will kick off July 7.
Secutech Hybrid Online Exhibition, asmag.com’s sister and companion security tradeshow, takes place from July 7 to August 6. The exhibition is virtual this year due to the ongoing COVID situation yet is nevertheless exciting as ever. Especially, Secutech Hybrid will showcase a wide range of video surveillance products made by top-notch Taiwan manufacturers.

Why Taiwan

Secutech Hybrid gathers top-class Taiwan video surveillance vendors at the event. Taiwan manufacturers are well-known for their ICT capability and innovation. In that sense, they can deliver great value for customers looking for high-quality, competitively-priced and well-customized video surveillance products.

“ICT is the advantage territory of Taiwan companies, and there are also lots of popular Taiwanese video surveillance products in the market. It’s quite natural to combine these two territories and create a new Taiwan force in the video surveillance analytics market. Further, Taiwan companies are good in applications; it’s quite an important thing in the AI territory,” said Simon Lee, CEO of TouchCloud, a Secutech Hybrid exhibitor. “I believe that in the early stages of using AI, it will take a lot of trial and error to find the best way to use AI. Taiwan is the best field as the testing bed.

“The upstream and downstream supply chain of Taiwan's surveillance cameras is complete, and the hardware is provided by mature manufacturers,” said Shaq Tu, CEO of Beseye Cloud Security, another exhibitor. “A mature supply chain is an undoubtedly powerful support to get twice the result with half the effort.”

See the latest trends

Another reason to visit Secutech Hybrid is to see the latest trends in video surveillance. Indeed, security is constantly evolving. Analog cameras and DVRs have given way to highly integrative IP solutions boosted by new technologies such as AI, 4K and 5G.

AI, in particular, is now the dominant force in video surveillance. “The industry is moving beyond traditional security-focused surveillance and is adopting new use cases that could be referred to as smart video – cameras, storage, processing and deep learning algorithms combined to deliver solutions that make people’s experiences better. In particular, video analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) are playing an ever-increasing role in this field,” said Donken Liang, Account Manager at Western Digital. “The desire to gain insights from new technologies is always there – and it’s natural that data analytics and AI have become very important in the rapidly growing area of smart video recording.”

“AI video analysis has been booming in recent years, and the integration of surveillance cameras with AI has provided innovative solutions for many fields,” Tu said. “There are currently about 700 million surveillance cameras in the world, and less than 1 percent of them currently use AI technology. We believe that integrating AI technology with surveillance cameras will still be pursued by the market in the future.”

And manufacturers will bring out their latest solutions to respond to this AI trend. Western Digital, for example, will showcase their server and camera solutions that address storage issues in the AI and 4K era.

“At Secutech Hybrid this year, Western Digital would be showcasing our full family of WD Purple solutions including the WD Purple Pro Surveillance Hard Drive, which is designed for advanced AI-enabled recorders, video analytics servers and deep learning solutions requiring additional capacity, performance and workload capability,” said Western Digital's Liang. “Western Digital’s WD Purple SC QD101 microSD card is designed specifically for the mainstream security camera market. Using 96-layer 3D NAND technology, the card delivers a cost-effective combination of ultra-endurance, high performance, and wide capacity range up to 1TB. With the fast-growing market of security cameras, and growing adoption of 4K video, this card offers the right combination of longevity and capacity to handle the 24/7 continuous recording workload.”

Touchcloud, meanwhile, will showcase their solution called “GotchA!,” a cross-camera searching and tracking product.

“When people talk about AI, everyone knows facial recognition, license plate recognition, people detection and vehicle detection. However, all of them are for single one camera range. In the real scenario, we can easily find there are always more than one camera be installed depends on the field size. And cross-camera searching and tracking becomes the keen requirement that must be fulfilled,” Lee said. “One use case is for shopping mall’s analytics. We all know shopping mall’s manager always think how to increase their selling revenue while 80 percent revenue is from their VIP customers. So, to understand their VIP is a must. Again, video footage give managers the materials to know their VIP customers’ shopping behavior, and all they need to do now is to do the video analytics to extract the useful information. All those scenarios can be done by using cross-camera searching and tracking.”

Vertical-driven solutions

Indeed, AI has applications that spread across different verticals. Vendors will showcase vertical-driven solutions that solve users’ security and operational needs.

“We will display our solutions in smart manufacturing, smart transportation and smart retail in the Secutech Hybrid Online Exhibition,” Beseye’s Tu said. “For example, Beseye combines human detection and Skeleton-Print technology to effectively inform and alert the on-site personnel when the operator is near the large equipment or entering a dangerous restricted area so that the staff can have high attention to notice the accident. Integrating Beseye Skeleton-Print technology with customer's original surveillance camera can also assist in the following scenarios: Crowd control and intrusion detection in smart transportation, and customer satisfaction analysis and consumer behavior analysis in smart retail.”

Another exhibitor, Fuho, will display its global monitoring server, which has case studies in train station and school campus projects. “AI solution will deploy to places where it’s needed. For instance, we can integrate a video surveillance solution to monitor multiple campuses. In such a way, every corner of the campuses is covered,” said Claudia Lan, Marketing Specialist at Fuho Technology.
