According to a Philippine Daily Inquirer interview with Simon Barlow, President for Asia-Pacific Group at Carlson Rezidor, the global hotel management group is eyeing the Philippines as a priority market and will build and operate its second hotel under "Radisson Blu."

Carlson recently signed an agreement with SM Group to develop more mid-scale hotels under "Park Inn by Radisson" across the nation. The first one opened in Davao earlier this year, and the next one will be in Clark, Pampanga by 2016. More hotels will be unveiled at Mall of Asia and in north Eda and Iloilo. Barlow expressed that the strength of Carlson's relationship with SM Group enables them to develop multiple hotels in the mid-market sector and helps reduce operational costs by managing clusters of hotels through a group effort. This, in turn, gives a more rapid ROI for the owners.

Another local real estate investor and developer, Robinsons Land, is also on the way to build three new hotels under "Go Hotels" in metro Manila, located specifically in the central business districts Ortigas, Iloilo and Butuan. Go Hotels Ortigas Center will be opening soon with 198 rooms, while the Iloilo branch will open in the first quarter of 2014 with 167 rooms, and the Butuan branch the last quarter of 2014 with 102 rooms.

"These are exciting times for Philippine tourism," said Elizabeth Gregorio, GM of Go Hotels, "as the hospitality business opens more outlets, especially in metro Manila, in anticipation of the arrival of more tourists because of the government's focus on the industry."
