Acquapark Onda Blu in Tortoreto in Italy has a new video surveillance system and it carries the brand Hikvision. The water park offers 120,000 square meters of fun with attractions such as the Kamikaze, the death slide that drops the rider from dizzying heights, multi-track water slides and sliding mats on which to slip to the fantastic wave pool.

Waterparks face various security challenges. They have to ensure their guests’ safety in the water, on the various slides and attractions, and on the ground. Proper maintenance of the attractions and trained lifeguards can ensure that foreseeable risks are mitigated as much as possible. Yet, the biggest challenge to water parks is the people factor: The boy that decides to create a block in a fast water tube and forces the other guests to slide into each other or the thief that comes to the park with ill intentions, thus ruining everyone else’s fun day out.

Previously, Acquapark Onda Blu in Tortoreto had an analogue video surveillance system with only 5 IP cameras covering the all attractions. As the system was proving to be obsolete, a new solution was needed. This new solution was proposed by System Integrator Marco De Nicolais (http://www.marcodenicolais.it) and has been structured in a two-fold approach: The first step was to improve all the existing cables and passages as part of a complete revamp of the data transportation infrastructure. This enabled the creation of a star-topology fiber optic network that provided for a centralisation point where all the active network equipment was installed in special rack cabinets. These rack cabinets are connected and powered by a dedicated UPS system, from which fiber optic backbones link six field cabinets, within which copper / fiber switches in PoE were provided to both manage and power the IP cameras.

The second step in the project consisted of implementing the Hikvision video surveillance system: 2 NVR series DS-7732NI-I4 with 4K technology, 32 bullet cameras of the type DS-2CD2T42WD-I8 and 4Mpx WDR at 120dB fixed optics were installed to monitor the slide arrivals and the corridors leading to and from the water attractions as well as the entry / exit areas of the "river". These devices have been paired with a NAS model DS-A80624S to enable the hot spare mode of the disks, as well as the possibility for the System Integrator to configure and manage the RAID level they deem appropriate.

The choice of NVRs also meant that the existing 5 IP cameras could be kept and added to the 32 Hikvision cameras. Together with 3 additional IP cameras that were installed later, the end result provided a total of 42 video streams. The two NVRs, installed in a special cabinet located in the dedicated control room, were connected to two 43 "monitors. On each monitor, 21 cameras are displayed. This allows the entire system to be monitored directly from a single station both in live view and in playback as well as multiple and synchronous viewing of recordings.

The new infrastructure and IP technology ensure quality and technologically advanced solutions, a single control room and a greater coverage. With this, Acquapark Onda Blu can ensure the safety and fun of all its visitors.
