Intelligent search of video footage helps find what you need

Intelligent search of video footage helps find what you need
Video surveillance cameras and the footages that it captures are increasing in numbers. While this is definitely good for security, it becomes a challenge to find relevant information from huge chunks of data collected.
Video surveillance cameras and the footages that it captures are increasing in numbers. While this is definitely good for security, it becomes a challenge to find relevant information from huge chunks of data collected.

Now, Axxonsoft is providing a solution to this by focusing on creating and improving tools for fast and convenient search in video footage. In a recent report, the company shared the results of its efforts in this area.

The first point to note is how Axxonsoft products archive video data. While saving video, the software simultaneously collects metadata, which contains information on what is being captured. This data includes the position of an object in each frame, the size, color, and type of object (such as a person, a group of people, or a car) and the trajectory it is moving in, biometric vectors of faces, license plate numbers, information from POS terminals, and so on.

“All this different information is stored in a database, since searches will later be performed across the metadata, not in the video itself,” notes Igor Falomkin, Director of Development at Axxonsoft in the report.

MomentQuest

A forensic search tool, MomentQuest allows searching through any desired criteria. This can be crossing a line, moving between two polygonal regions or even moving within or loitering in a zone.
“You can use filters for faster and more refined searches, with criteria such as the object size, type, or color, the speed and direction of movement, and so on,” Falomkin pointed out. “Since the search is performed on metadata that is already stored in the database, the speed is fast enough that the first search results appear on the operator's screen in just a couple of seconds.”

Real-time detection tools

Using criteria similar to those mentioned above, the security system can be configured for detection. These detection tools are triggered in real time and immediately alert the operator. As a result, we can easily search recorded video and find all the detection events, the report said.

Time Compressor

This facility helps in quickly reviewing events without fast-forwarding. Objects and events captured at different times are displayed simultaneously in a condensed video synopsis.

“When you spot an object of interest, select it to play the corresponding video fragment in Full,” Falomkin. “The view is designed to minimize the overlap of objects during viewing, and you can also limit the number of objects shown on the screen at once so the operator won't have trouble finding the relevant object. In addition, each object has a label under it showing the time when it was in the scene.”

Other features include face search, a convenient tool to quickly find what you need in large amounts of footage, license plate search, text comments search, time slice and events search, according to the report.
