IDIS H.265 advancement to reduce bandwidth and storage by over 65%

IDIS H.265 advancement to reduce bandwidth and storage by over 65%
IDIS announced the IDIS Intelligent Codec, an advanced compression technology building on the company’s comprehensive H.265 range of full-HD IP cameras and network video recorders (NVRs) already delivering up to a 50% bit rate reduction saving on storage space and network bandwidth.
IDIS announced the IDIS Intelligent Codec, an advanced compression technology building on the company’s comprehensive H.265 range of full-HD IP cameras and network video recorders (NVRs) already delivering up to a 50% bit rate reduction saving on storage space and network bandwidth.

IDIS Intelligent Codec delivers up to 30% bit rate reduction on top of H.265, thus giving users a 65% reduction. IDIS then adds a motion adaptive transmission (MAT) technique, to achieve a further 15% rate reduction. MAT reduces the bit-rate by restricting transmission during live surveillance periods without movement, so that data transmitted can be reduced drastically, when there is no movement. Taking H.264 as the base line, IDIS Intelligent Codec plus MAT will deliver customers a total saving of up to 90%, depending on the scene and resolution. The less complex the scene and the less movement present, the better the compression.

This new technology makes the IDIS H.265 range cost-effective, while ensuring a low total cost of ownership. IDIS also implements dual codec (H.264/265) and hybrid codec across its entire H.265 range including cameras, NVRs through to mobile apps. This allows users to use H.264 for live monitoring on current hardware, while utilizing H.265 for recording, reducing the storage requirement and allowing users to enjoy the full benefits of IDIS Intelligent Codec. This also ensures that the H.265 range is backward compatible with earlier IDIS technology and fulfils the IDIS promise of futureproof surveillance.
