Huawei collaborates with partners for safe city ICT solution

Huawei collaborates with partners for safe city ICT solution
Safe city projects of the past primarily consisted of merely video surveillance. However, these systems didn’t allow for optimal management of events due to limited incident warning capabilities and inefficient command and dispatch.
To meet challenges to public security, governments around the world have been increasing the use of technology to aid them in their efforts to keep their cities and people safe. Safe city projects of the past primarily consisted of merely video surveillance. However, these systems didn't allow for optimal management of events due to limited incident warning capabilities and inefficient command and dispatch.

This was compounded even further by issues relating to information sharing and analysis between government agencies. Thus, modern solutions now leverage information communications technologies (ICT) to support and provide a framework for the creation of integrated urban safety management systems.

In an effort to address these issues, Huawei Technology regularly collaborates with other industry partners to create interconnected systems that can help improve responses to emergency and non-emergency situations that can impact public safety. They recently announced a partnership with Hexagon, a global provider of information technologies. Combining ICT with safety and infrastructure software, the Visualized Converged Command solution is meant to enhance two aspects Huawei considered as essential to any successful safe city project: visualization and collaboration.

Safe City Solution
The safe city solution utilizes an Intelligent Surveillance System (IVS) for the integration of video feeds from various sources and their management, allowing authorities to easily perform online queries and browsing of collected data. The cloud platform allows for multiple viewing across different departments, enabling authorities to view events that are ongoing and immediately coordinate efforts to manage the situation with the help of the geographical information system (GIS).

To improve data transmission and real-time media dispatching capability, a 4G LTE-based Broadband Trunking solution was employed. Responders can readily upload data onto the system, even when they're on the road, and share important information in real-time to other authorities; thus, enabling mobile incident management.

The convergent command center pools information from multiple sources into one centralized location; thus improving operational efficiency, as authorities need not bother with collating the data themselves. Additional information can then be retrieved, if necessary, using the center's emergency computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. Using big data analysis, the system can enable authorities to stage a quick response, obtain related images or information, and even prevent these incidents from occurring.
