Positive Long-term Outlook for Video Analysis, Says IMS Research

IMS Research's latest report on the video content analysis (VCA) market forecast over 450,000 channels of analytics will be embedded in cameras, encoders, DVRs and NVRs in 2013. While this is down on previous forecasts, it still represents a significant market for video analytics. Specialist VCA software vendors are predicted to supply more than 40 percent of these channels, with the remainder coming from large video surveillance equipment manufacturers developing their own analytics.

Report author and Market Analyst Niall Jenkins said, “The embedded video analytics market still offers growth potential for VCA software vendors. While a small number of mainstream video surveillance equipment manufacturers have developed their own analytics, the majority continues to partner with third-party VCA software providers, and this represents a sizeable number of channels in the market.”

“There are also positive signs that the video analytics software market is beginning to pick up,” Jenkins said. “Agent Vi recently announced it has won a contract to provide over 1,000 licenses to a large subway project in Asia and ObjectVideo deployed its business intelligence analytics across 220 retail stores in the U.S. recently. As the VCA market adjusts to more realistic growth expectations, these announcements are the first signs that confidence is returning to the market.”
