He adds: “Using mobile safety technology like the Rave Panic Button, campus staff can initiate an emergency call that instantly dials 9-1-1 while simultaneously passing rich situational data directly onto the local dispatch center’s CAD screen. This streamlines standard verbal intake interviews, cutting critical minutes off response times.”
Getting first responders to the right place
Today, many corporations own multiple buildings on a single site, forming corporate campuses. When an emergency occurs, responders should be aware which buildings are evacuated, which ones are more impacted and which ones still have people trapped inside. An emergency response platform well integrated with other security systems provides detailed occupancy data that can be helpful during the rescue process.
“No emergency management system can determine occupancy on its own. Instead, it relies on information from connected systems such as access control, visitor management, badging and employee accountability tools. When those systems are integrated, operators can develop a much clearer picture of who is likely present in a building and who has already evacuated or checked in at an assembly area,” Beerbaum said.

“The key to effective public safety collaboration is establishing a single common operating picture. Using standardized GIS mapping layers and indoor floor plans, enterprise safety teams and public safety dispatchers reference the exact same spatial view,” Forsyth said, adding pre-established MOUs and joint operational exercises are also critical.
“Law enforcement personnel do not have the day-to-day context to interpret raw corporate shift lists or unverified headcount data. Therefore, highest-performing organizations establish clear memorandums of understanding refined through joint training exercises between the enterprise and local first responders. These protocols establish exactly what information is shared, under what circumstances, and how safety teams translate internal headcount checks into actionable tactical intelligence for incident commanders,” Forsyth said.
Mass notification
When an emergency occurs, it’s also incumbent upon the organization to inform all employees, visitors and remote workers of the situation and keep them constantly updated through e-mail, texts or push messages. The mass notification function within an emergency response platform can be useful in this regard.
Forsyth details how mass notification works for the following groups. For employees and on-site personnel, they get messages via contact data maintained through automated, programmatic synchronization with corporate directories, guaranteeing that role changes, mobile numbers, and primary work locations update dynamically without administrative burden.
For visitors, contractors and temporary event guests, campuses deploy SMS opt-in keywords displayed on visitor badges or digital entry displays (for example "Text CAMPUSSAFE to 67283"). Tips on implementation

One is integration. Rather than having the platform work in silos independent of other systems, they should be well integrated to allow better information, improved coordination and reduced human error.
“The largest challenge is usually integration. Many campuses operate a mix of legacy and modern technologies that were never designed to work together. The effectiveness of an emergency response system depends on its ability to connect video, access control, alarm systems, communications tools and other operational technologies into a unified environment,” Beerbaum said.
He adds that organizations should also pay close attention to data quality. “Occupancy records, contact databases, floor plans and campus maps must be accurate if decision-makers are expected to rely on them during an emergency. Geospatial information should be maintained as facilities change, and response procedures should reflect actual operational requirements rather than generic templates,” Beerbaum said.
