‘Made in Taiwan’ means high tech with zero compliance risks at Secutech

‘Made in Taiwan’ means high tech with zero compliance risks at Secutech
The Made-in-Taiwan label has undergone several revolutions, and is now a signifier of highest technological prowess and compliance standards for solutions in video security, access control, IoT, key components and beyond
The Made-in-Taiwan label has undergone several revolutions, from cheap consumer goods in the early days, to “everything’s made in Taiwan anyway” and, most recently, a signifier of highest technological prowess and compliance standards.

At Secutech this year, held from April 22 – 24 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 1, the latest Made-in-Taiwan solutions in video security, access control, IoT, key components and beyond were on show. These were some of the highlights:

The specialized ‘middle class’: Hi-Sharp, 3S, Lilin and Geovision

Among the brands most outspoken about its local identity is Hi-Sharp. The company has pivoted its strategy toward clean supply chains, targeting the US market and other high-regulation environments, such as India. While it continues to assemble some camera models in China, targeting budget-conscious customers, it is planning to released a fully “Made-in-Taiwan” line of AI-ready NVRs, DVRs and AI boxes, powered by SoCs sourced from Taiwanese peer Novatek, in the fourth quarter of 2026.

At Secutech, it showcased several edge AI-enabled camera models, such as the dualsensor HS-D137WE dome camera and the motorized 2.8~12 mm HS-T058WN camera optimized for detection distances of 30 to 50m.

“Those models, alongside many of our NVRs and DVRs, such as the 16 channel HS-HX631F, are fully compliant with clean supply channel regulations in the US,” said Christine Lin, Sales Department Manager at Hi-Sharp, referring to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which prohibits US federal agencies and their contractors to purchase video surveillance equipment from specific Chinese manufacturers, citing “national security risks.”

Despite its jurisdiction being limited to the US, the NDAA effectively functions as a “clean supply chain” label beyond its borders.

Similar to Hi-Sharp, 3S has built its reputation in the domestic market on the pillars supply chain transparency and reliability. Previously an OEM supplier to foreign brands, 3S has made its name through contracts with government agencies and the military, for which it supplies video security systems for ground installations such as barracks or airbase perimeters.

“We work with customers who have the highest standards. Every model that can be installed on their premises has to be physically opened and we have to prove the provenance of each component,” said Kevin Cheng, Senior Sales Manager at 3S “Our standards and certificates, such as NDAA compliance, open many doors, in Taiwan and internationally.”

At Secutech, 3S showcased its range of NVRs, DVRs and cameras—from bispectral/thermal models to speed domes, multisensory and zoom cameras—as well as its proprietary VMS.

“Aside from continuously updated AI capabilities, our VMS solutions offer remarkable customization options,” Cheng said. “We work closely with our clients to ensure they get the solution they need.”

Meanwhile, Lilin and Geovision have both pivoted toward software-driven video security solutions, offering customers far-reaching customization options. Both companies work with SIs in international markets, focusing on project-based deployments.

At Secutech, Lilin showcased edge AI cameras for 4K Ultra HD recording powered by SoCs sourced from Sony, which are being produced outside China in accordance with NDAA standards. Its AI cameras enable the AIDA AI image analysis engine, which unlocks features in the smart traffic management space from ALPR to parking space and vehicle flow counting.

Geovision’s focus at the show was on scalable on-prem video security systems integrating AI analytics.

“Our VMS unlocks the latest AI features for on-prem-based architectures that run on our edge AI cameras,” said May Chen, Sales Division Account Executive, Geovision. “The system is scalable for up to 24 devices. For customers who want to add AI features to systems that largely rely on legacy cameras without edge AI, we have a solution that can add unlock those features for up to 16 devices.”

“The solutions we have on show here are NDAA-compliant across the whole architecture, also including NVRs, DVRs and cloud management for up to 900 channels connecting on-prem recorders,” Chen added.

Taiwanese powerhouses: Vivotek and Synology

NDAA compliance is unsurprisingly a given at Taiwan’s global brands in the security space, foremost among them Synology and VIVOTEK.

Synology, known internationally for highly scalable and customizable NAS solutions, is increasingly expanding into video security.

At Secutech, it showcased its latest BC800Z camera with edge AI capabilities, which can, for example, handle ALPR workloads and people counting with near-zero latency or any risks posed by unstable connections. The rest of its lineup can perform similar AI functions, using the compute power of Synology NAS.

At the VIVOTEK booth, the latest updates to its on-prem VMS and VORTEX cloud platform were on show, including the integration of gen AI. As complete solutions provider, VIVOTEK is seeking to bridge the gap between on-prem and cloud-based deployments, by offering users the same experience under the “One Platform” banner.

“‘One Platform’means we can transform on-prem systems into hybrid systems by building a bridge to the cloud. 'One Platform' means on-prem and cloud systems become one from the persepctive of the user," Jackie Wu, Department Manager, APAC Sales Department, Vivotek, said.

VIVOTEK, arguably the biggest Taiwanese brand in the video security space, has successfully struck the balance between its own branded business and OEM manufacturing for other global brands whose focus is more on cloud AI and software development, offering them NDAA-compliant hardware.

Beyond video security: OEM manufacturing, intercoms and a brand revival

Manufacturing highest-standard hardware for other brands is also part of AVTECH’s strategy. While the company recently expanded its own-brand business, with AI-enabled recorders developed using the YOLO8 AI model and powered by Novatek chipsets, it also maintains a large OEM-manufacturing footprint.

“NDAA-compliance is central for Western brands who need a reliablemanufacturing partner,” said Alejandro Portillo, Product Division Sales Manager at AVTECH.

A foot in the door in Western markets is also a point of pride for Taiwanese intercom brand maxsys. While being a household name in Taiwan, its international focus is on markets far beyond the island’s shores: In the US, Europe and Israel, where “Made-in-Taiwan” creates trust with customers.

At Secutech, the company showcased two-way audio intercom systems with up to five door controller panels and IP camera integration, as well as solutions for self-service delivery facilities.

A well-known brand in the video security space used to be icatch. Once boasting significant penetration in international markets (but only in the pre-IP camera era), the brand was recently revived by Taiwan-based Definitely Win Corp and now offers a full lineup of video security and access control solutions.

Among those, one highlight at Secutech was icatch’s proprietary VMS, which is optimized for diverse people recognition functions, enabling users to create facial recognition-based user groups or use AI analytics to create business intelligence.

“Our products are NDAA compliant,” said Arif Elmas, Global Sales Manager, Definitely Win. “That’s a very important differentiator in the international market.”
