Vivotek is continuing to introduce innovations to its vast portfolio of solutions, chiefly among them this year it’s “One Platform” approach to bringing its established VMS into the cloud.
One of the leading manufacturing hub for video security, Taiwan and its brands are continuing to play an outsized role at Secutech, which is being held in Taipei from April 22 - 24, with Vivotek as a global top 20 company foremost among them.
Vivotek is continuing to introduce innovations to its vast portfolio of solutions, chiefly among them this year its “One Platform” approach to bringing its established VMS into the cloud.
In an exclusive interview at the Vivotek booth, Jackie Wu, Department Manager, APAC Sales Department, Vivotek, told asmag about the company’s latest innovations showcased to its home country audience.
“‘One Platform’means we can transform on-prem systems into hybrid systems by building a bridge to the cloud. 'One Platform' means on-prem and cloud systems become one from the persepctive of the user," Wu explained. "Meanwhile, we can also connect cameras to the cloud directly, without any additional on-prem infrastructure.”
Overcoming the distinction between on-prem and cloud VMS means users gain flexibility. It also means Vivotek's increasing AI offering becomes accessible to users from anywhere, at any time.
“We remain dedicated to integrating new technology to our platform," Wu said. "Last year we introduced natural language-based Think Search to our AI Hub within Vortex, and this year we have added Think Alert for proactive risk detection and real-time notifications."
Secutech comes weeks after Vivotek introduced for the first time the integration of Gen AI features, at ISC West in Las Vegas.
Gen AI-powered Think Alert, operators can use natural language to define alert rules without complex configurations. When predefined conditions or keywords are detected, the system automatically triggers alerts, significantly reducing response time and enabling earlier intervention.
A central role to unlocking AI capabilities play the edge AI capabilities of Vivotek cameras.
"Thanks to edge capabilities, AI capabilities do not rely on the backend," Wu said, adding that this, too, gives users flexibility, regardless of whether they primarily use an on-prem VMS or access analytics through the cloud. This is especially important in the Taiwan market.
“In the Taiwan market, the bridge between on-prem and cloud is of great importance,” Wu said. “It’s about making AI applications accessible.”
Along with global top 20 company Vivotek, smaller Taiwanese video security brands remain competitive in the global market as they focus on NDAA-compliant platforms and customization options.
Geovision
Scalability of on-prem systems is front-and-center in Geovision’s booth at Secutech. After all, it is not just about advanced features, but also about enabling users to benefit from them in their everyday workflows.
“Our VMS unlocks the latest AI features for on-prem-based architectures that run on our edge AI cameras,” said May Chen, Sales Division Account Executive, Geovision. “The system is scalable for up to 24 devices. For customers who want to add AI features to systems that largely rely on legacy cameras without edge AI, we have a solution that can add unlock those features for up to 16 devices.”
“On larger scales, we can integrate up to 900 streams for infrastructures connecting multiple servers,” she said. “All can also be accessed through the cloud. Hybrid egde-cloud setups without further on-prem servers are also possible.”
Most Taiwanese brands offer NDAA-compliant devices, relying mostly on Made-in-Taiwan components, including Goevisio, Vivotek and others.
Hi-Sharp
Hi-Sharp, a video security solutions provider, has a vast global footprint across APAC, North America and Europe, working mostly project-based, for example with banks that need compliant security for ATM rooms.
“We have two lines. One only uses Made-in-Taiwan components,” Christine Lin, Sales Department Manager, Hi-Sharp. “The other integrates components made in China, which enables customers in jurisdictions that are less strict to benefit from budget-friendlier solutions.”
At Secutech Hi-Sharp introduced a lineup of AI boxes, enabling users to benefit from the latest features on legacy cameras without edge AI.
"The aim is to offer slim systems with AI capabilites near the edge," Lin explained.
3S
3S’ global footprint is mostly through OEM manufacturing, another area where Taiwanese companies excel thanks to highest compliance standards. However, it has in the past few years achieved significant penetration in the domestic market as it turned itself into a solutions provider introducing its proprietary VMS. Its focus in terms of verticals is publicly funded transportation projects and security for military bases.
“The standards for the military are especially high,” said Kevin Cheng, Sales and Marketing Department Senior Sales Manager, 3S. “Integrators need to demonstrate to the operator on the spot that every component down to the SoC fulfills compliance standards and is sourced transparently.”
“While certificates, such as GSA, prove compliance in the global market, it doesn’t suffice in this vertical. Here ‘Made-in-Taiwan’ is what counts,” Cheng said. “In the future, when we’re planning to expand abroad. We are confident that 'Made-in-Taiwan’creates a high level of trust, but it still needs more efforts to promote the brand, from manufacturers as well as the government.”
