Product testing: Hikvision smart access control terminal

Product testing: Hikvision smart access control terminal
Hikvision has launched a new smart access control terminal, the DS-K1T321, that’s open, cost-effective and easy to use. This article takes a closer look at the device, based on product testing conducted by a&s China.
In recent years, demand for intelligent office hardware, including access control, has been on the rise. In order to better meet user needs, Hikvision has launched a new smart access control terminal, the DS-K1T321, that’s open, cost-effective and easy to use. This article takes a closer look at the device, based on product testing conducted by a&s China.

The Hikvision DS-K1T321 is a smart access control terminal that comes with various advanced functions and can help improve access control and management efficiency especially for small and medium enterprises/industrial parks. In addition to meeting the user’s daily access control needs, the terminal can also work with Hikvision’s cloud software to enable remote time-attendance and visitor management functions to offer more benefits to users.

Exquisite design

The DS-K1T321 smart access control terminal adopts a vertical design, features a slender body and smooth lines, and looks small and exquisite. The panel includes a fill light, 2.4-inch non-touch screen, and a card/fingerprint recognition area.

Further, a simple yet durable physical keypad is included. The physical keypad design can effectively prevent pressing the wrong keys, giving users a greater user experience. The terminal also adopts a hanging plate installation design, making it easy to install.

Multiple authentication factors supported

The DS-K1T321 terminal comes with a 2MP wide dynamic monocular camera combined with a white fill light, capable of quickly and accurately identifying a person no matter the lighting scenario at the scene. The device supports multiple authentication methods including password, card, fingerprint and face. Moreover, the terminal supports flexible combinations of these factors to meet the different needs of users. According to product testing by a&s, the terminal operates smoothly no matter which authentication combination is used.

Cloud-based intelligent management

In addition to the hardware advantages, the DS-K1T321 can also work with the Hik-Connect software. Hik-Connect can be accessed from web browsers, apps and WeChat applets. After the DS-K1T321 is connected to the Internet, the user can use the Hik-Connect app to scan the QR code on the back of the device to complete device registration. Then, the device can work with Hik-Connect for cloud access control, cloud time-attendance, cloud visitor management and other functions. Below we take a further look.

Cloud access control: Hik-Connect can assign different access rights to people based on their role at the organization. Access control device status can be checked from the backend. Access control events can be viewed via video in real time. When an event does happen, personnel can check related logs to see what happened. Together, Hik-Connect and the DS-K1T321 terminal make sure that access control authority sharing, personnel access management, one-click door opening and other end user entity requirements can be realized.

Cloud time-attendance: Working in conjunction with Hik-Connect, the DS-K1T321 terminal can serve as a time-attendance system – a separate time-attendance solution is no longer required. Employees can use the terminal to clock in and out daily. Shifts can be scheduled from both the Hik-Connect app and the web. At the same time, Hik-Connect supports three shift categories: fixed shifts, scheduled shifts and custom shifts, allowing personnel to schedule shifts with more flexibility.

Hik-Connect supports clocking in and out via access control terminals as well as the user’s smart device. Employees out on duty or on business trips can clock in from outside the office and see their time-attendance record, all via the Hik-Connect app.

For departmental managers, they can view monthly attendance reports through Hik-Connect and export reports if needed. Hik-Connect also enables employees to apply for leaves or business trips via the Hik-Connect app and get approval/the lack thereof accordingly.

The DS-K1T321 smart access control terminal supports the RS-485 protocol as well as external card readers and access control hosts. The terminal’s module is also equipped with a doorbell button, adding more functions to the device.

Overall, the DS-K1T321 smart access control terminal is a multi-purpose device that meets multiple access control and time-attendance needs and can be widely used in small and medium enterprises, factories, industrial parks and other places, ensuring safe access while improving management efficiency.
