Dahua intelligent traffic solution: Safer roads to a sustainable future

Dahua intelligent traffic solution: Safer roads to a sustainable future
Dahua has an intelligent traffic solution that addresses various transportation challenges, in the process making cities greener and cleaner. This article takes a closer look.
As more people migrate to cities amid urbanization, transportation-related issues such as congestion, pollution and traffic violations inevitably arise. Increasingly, municipal administrators are turning to intelligent transportation systems or ITS to deal with these issues. To this end, Dahua has an intelligent traffic solution that addresses various transportation challenges, in the process making cities greener and cleaner. This article takes a closer look.

ITS can be a powerful tool for addressing various traffic-related problems facing cities and towns. For example, parking in the wrong place can be penalized by way of license plate recognition (LPR). Signal changes can be adjusted based on traffic conditions at the time. Realizing the benefits of ITS, more and more cities are deploying ITS projects, triggering demand and growth. According to MarketsandMarkets, the global ITS market is projected to reach US$67.2 billion by 2028 from $47.8 billion in 2023, growing at a CAGR of 7.1 percent during the period.

However, conventional ITS solutions have certain shortcomings and limitations. Cameras may not have enough processing power to run different violation detection algorithms. Recognizing license plates in different lighting scenarios remains a challenge. Further, the lack of an integrated design makes installation cumbersome and difficult.

Dahua’s intelligent traffic solution: 4 highlights

This is where Dahua’s intelligent traffic solution comes in. A vision-based global IoT solutions provider, Dahua offers a variety of advanced, customized products and solutions to truly solve local traffic challenges. Dahua’s intelligent traffic solution features four major highlights, which are discussed as follows.

Business convergence

Business convergence entails integrating different traffic-related businesses, or operations, into one violation enforcement unit. These include ANPR, traffic violation detection, speed measurement, traffic flow detection, and driver behavior analysis. In terms of traffic violation detection, the system can detect running red lights, wrong-way driving, illegal lane change and illegal turns, among others. As for driver behavior analysis, the system can detect calling while driving and drivers/passengers not wearing seatbelts. The complex and diverse business modules are realized by Dahua's advanced deep learning algorithms and powerful hardware performance.

High precision

Dahua’s intelligent traffic solution can precisely detect and recognize road and in-vehicle irregularities regardless the time of the day or lighting condition. Technologies that make this possible include: SPC, which constructs an optical model by modulating the spectral channels and adding polarizers to effectively capture in-vehicle violations throughout the day; and Glowlight, which realizes 80 Lux ultra-lowlight capturing, producing clear color images in ultra-lowlight conditions with the help of supplemental lights.

RVF, meanwhile, is a radar and vision fusion technology used in the intelligent traffic solution. “The traditional violation detection only uses the two-dimensional information collected by the camera. With the use of RVF technology, the three-dimensional information of the radar and the two-dimensional information of the camera are fused, which not only improves the accuracy of the vehicle data collection, but also greatly optimizes the effectiveness of law enforcement,” said Oliver Li, Product Manager at Dahua Technology.

AI-based enforcement unit

Intelligence at the edge is a hallmark of the solution, whereby Dahua’s enforcement cameras simultaneously enable violation detection, speed measurement and traffic flow detection. This eliminates the need for intelligent servers and transmission devices and helps reduce the number of devices from three to one. The cost of deploying an intersection surveillance can be reduced by as much as 80 percent.

All-in-one design

The all-in-one design of the solution can be understood as integrating all related equipment in an all-in-one form. A typical road point monitoring system requires at least one camera, a radar, a fill light, and the corresponding accessories. Putting this together can make the installation process cumbersome. The Dahua solution’s integrated design greatly reduces the cost of equipment purchases and shortens installation time.

Green and sustainable

Dahua’s intelligent traffic solution goes beyond solving traffic issues. It also makes the city greener and more environmental. “The power consumption associated with a large number of equipment running throughout the day is difficult to estimate, and a large number of fill lights not only cause light pollution but also seriously impact the driver,” Li said. “To solve those issues, Dahua launched its intelligent traffic solution which ensures product light weight, energy savings and emission reduction to the maximal extent, and at the same time solves the problem of image quality associated with all-weather capturing and reduces the usage of fill-in lamps as much as possible, so as to alleviate the impact of urban light pollution on traffic enforcement.”

Indeed, amid green and sustainability movements across the globe, Dahua’s launch of the intelligent traffic solution shows the company’s firm commitment to environmental cleanliness and sustainable development.

Applications

Dahua’s intelligent traffic solution is especially suitable for applications such as intersections, expressways, bridges and urban roads. With a good global partner ecosystem, Dahua already has large-volume projects in most regions around the world, including the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Specifically, last year Dahua helped a customer deploy a complete urban transportation system in a Brazilian state, and this year Dahua will complete its first complete overseas signal control system in Egypt.

Conclusion

Clearly, cities across the world are relying on smart transportation technologies to address traffic-related issues. Dahua has caught up with this trend by launching their intelligent traffic solution, which addresses various transportation challenges as well as make cities greener and more environment-friendly. In this regard, we commend Dahua for their efforts to promote green living, help cities develop sustainably and build safer roads to a sustainable future.
