How HID Global solutions help combat COVID-19

How HID Global solutions help combat COVID-19
In this note, HID Global speaks to a&s about their solutions for covid-19 prevention and control.
The COVID-19 disease has become a global pandemic, infecting 7.3 million and killing 410,000 worldwide, according to worldometers at this note’s publish. This, then, has prompted vendors to launch advanced solutions for contact tracing and visitor management, meeting end user requirements. In this note, Jaroslav Barton, Director of Product Marketing at HID Global, speaks to a&s about their solutions for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Q: How do you think the coronavirus will affect the identity management and access control industry in terms of technology development?

A: Companies will need to become more nimble and rapidly innovate when it comes to developing and releasing relevant products that address the dynamic needs of enterprise organizations.

Q: Is HID planning on rolling out any specific solutions to help mitigate future risks like this?

A: As communities and economies begin to re-open, concerns around COVID-19 will require level of physical distancing into the future. There’s no doubt about it, this global pandemic will change practically every way we live, work, and conduct regular business for some time.

One of the biggest challenges organizations face today is the need for contact tracing, physical distancing procedures and improved hygiene to ensure a safe workplace. Real-time location services technology is playing a key role in automating how organizations monitor people’s proximity to others and measure localized density in real time. It is also dramatically simplifying contract tracing by enabling detailed and automated record-keeping of where an employee has been in a building, with whom they interacted, and if they have been complying with disinfecting requirements such as the usage of hand sanitation stations, for example.

Q: What are some existing solutions HID has that can assist in preventing the spread of coronavirus?

A: HID's Contact Tracing Rapid Deployment Solution. This solution allows organizations to efficiently monitor interactions by digitally accounting for patient movements and encounters.

The Contact Tracing Rapid Deployment Solution includes the HID Location Services real-time location-based cloud platform to provide real-time data and intelligence for visibility into the precise location of health care practitioners and patients at any time. Advantages include:

  • Fast set up using real-time location hardware and cloud software that allows the solution to be up and running within hours.
  • Monitor patients and staff using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) enabled credentials pre-provisioned to each staff member and patient.
  • Create “Safe Zones” using geofences and send instant alerts when people move outside of designated areas.
  • Access to real-time analytics that includes location within defined zones, contact type and contact duration within seconds (including start and end times) for each patient visit.
  • Standalone connectivity using BLE over cellular network and mobile devices minimizes disruption of service. No additional infrastructure, hardware or network wiring makes field triage areas easy to deploy.

Another popular solution is Easylobby visitor management software that enables reliable auditing of visitors in the organization. Easylobby now integrates HID Mobile Access solution that eliminates the time spent at the front desk registration. Instead of access control cards the visitor is being sent a digital access credential to his or her smart phone directly.

Q: How has the COVID-19 outbreak impacted your product supply? Have you experienced the shortage of certain components or accessories?

A: The health and safety of HID Global’s employees, customers and partners is our primary concern as we continue to monitor the coronavirus COVID-19. HID is building upon information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and local and national agencies in several countries to inform our decision-making. We are in daily communications with our supply and transportation partners and will inform you directly of any impact to your product deliveries.
