Numbers up 12% on the previous edition, with international attendance from 88 countries, of which the ten most represented were Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, Tunisia, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Croatia. An increase that proves how SICUREZZA is now recognized as a reference hub for professionals from all over Europe and the Mediterranean area.
SICUREZZA 2019: a journey into evolving security
The 619 exhibitors - +33% compared to the last edition, 30% from 37 foreign countries - presented product innovation and numerous previews to attentive and motivated professionals.
The deep evolution that the world of security is experiencing and the rapidly changing technological scenario have been the background to the three days of the exhibition.
Integration, digitalisation, smart solutions confirmed to be the drivers of the exhibition proposals.
Security sees increasingly digital, wireless (so easy to install) and customized solutions for all areas of application - from home to city, up to industry, transport and entertainment - and expression of the most advanced technological research. Biometrics, artificial intelligence, voice recognition, IoT are now widespread in all areas, from building automation to video surveillance, up to the world of access control.
Intelligent video cameras that warn in case of potential risks, anti-intrusion solutions that can be managed remotely, integrated cloud systems, facial recognition are just some examples of new technologies experienced during the show.
The technologies called upon to protect our homes and the city streets on which we live as well as safeguard people and possessions in the workplace have drastically changed, as have the professionalisms that manage and install them.
Thanks to the presence of leading Italian and international brands, SICUREZZA allowed visitors to evaluate new and previewed products across all sectors, be it video surveillance, firefighting, access control or passive security, but also to contextualize and understand the sector’s evolutionary driving forces, guiding professionals towards the market of tomorrow.
Today, securing no longer implies simply installing a single product and rather addresses the need to study a solution, tailored to the context in which it is applied, starting from a careful risk assessment. Installers become real consultants in this perspective. The profession requires more specialized skills, especially that of integrating different systems. For homes, for instance, security becomes an integral part of home automation solutions that also manage HVAC and lights and can communicate directly with Alexa or Google Home.
At the same time, digitalisation and smart solutions, now managed by apps or wearable mini-devices, are revolutionising the technological scenario, focusing on data protection and on the implementation of protection strategies against cyber-attacks of various kinds.
A new focus: cyber security
Great interest there was also for the debutting Cyber Arena, the new exhibition, training and information area dedicated to the theme of cybersecurity and designed to help companies best manage IT threats.
Until a few decades ago, it was enough to identify a threat, define the perimeter to be protected and erect physical barriers to shield a site. Now, in this fully connected day and age, the scenario is decidedly more complex. The boundaries are more fluid. The line between safe and unsafe is no longer clear and grey areas are being created.
Digital innovation itself, now widespread across production contexts, exposes to new risks of a hybrid nature, focusing on data protection and the implementation of strategies to protect assets from attacks of various kinds.
In this scenario, even advanced security tools, now increasingly digital and connected - such as smart cameras, cloud-based integrated systems, smart speakers, biometrics, artificial intelligence, remote management via app - must be protected from the point of view of information technology, to prevent them from becoming back doors of access to the system.
For this reason, within SICUREZZA, proposed a new focus on cyber threats, which are considered the main risk factor for their business on global level by 82% of risk managers (ninth edition of Zurich's 2019 Advisen Cyber Survey).
Key experts in the sector provided their views to all trade professionals that participated to the Cyber Security Talks.
Conventions and meetings to develop the sector
Great success has also obtained the rich program dedicated to professional updating with the participation of over 4000 professionals.
More than 100 conferences and meetings - many of which have enabled operators to obtain training credits for various professional figures (industrial experts, engineers, installers, security operators) – have focused on the value of human resources and the central role of continuous training. The most topical issues for all sectors have been tackled by international experts, associations and academic institutions, with content that is highly appreciated at a time when the market is experiencing a real revolution.
Updating at SICUREZZA involved a busy calendar of training initiatives, covering subjects from urban safety to cybersecurity, without forgetting the latest regulations and standards with which installers and designers are called to comply.
The importance of continuous training is the focus and is fundamental for the sector. Skills can no longer be improvised and, particularly following the application of GPDR, anyone who is unaware of their civil and legal responsibilities put both themselves and the company they work for at risk.
Next edition of SICUREZZA and Smart Bulding Expo will be in two years, in 2021.
