With more than 58,000 employees and five manufacturing plants, Shanghai General Motors (SGM) in China understands the importance of safe and secure facilities. In an effort to increase security, SGM decided that it needed to overhaul its aging analog video surveillance system.
An analysis of SGM needs determined that the most important factors in selecting a new IP surveillance system would be stability, performance, and scalability. In addition, SGM also needed server redundancy, centralized management, video wall management, and the ability to integrate with existing technology.
SGM selected Aimetis Symphony as its new video management system. Another important factor for the team at SGM was reducing maintenance time and costs. The open system allowed SGM to continue to use some of its existing technology, while it migrated to a pure IP system. This decreased the initial hardware investment of incorporating a new system. Maintenance costs have also been reduced through centralized management and integration with SGM operation system.
