Oman Railway Company (ORC) has launched the pre-qualification tender for the implementation of 207km-long Sohar-Buraimi project, which is the first segment of Oman's national rail network.
The project is expected to establish new industries and services that contribute in the growth of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and create job opportunities. It is also aimed at integrating the marine, railway, land and airport transport sectors and building a highly competitive transportation system.
It is reported that ORC is currently calling for bids from local and international companies for the design and construction of the project, which will be carried out in 3 sections.
The Sohar-Buraimi stretch connects the Port of Sohar to the GCC rail network at the Sultanate's border with the UAE at Al Buraimi and Khatmat Milahah.
The 127km-long Sector 1A connects Sohar Station to the Oman-UAE border at Al Buraimi and Khatmat Milahah.
Sector 1B is a 34km-long spur line that connects to Buraimi Station from Sector 1A and Sector 1C is a 38km spur line connecting the Sohar Port to Sector 1A.
