A new 35km coastal road costing US$60.3 million will be built from Kg Palu-Palu here to Kimanis next year.
Disclosing this here on Saturday, Kuala Penyu Assemblyman Limus Jury said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had approved the federal-funded project.
When completed, he said the new road would shorten the present 70km journey to here from Kota Kinabalu, bringing relief to many local residents in and around here as well as visitors.
In addition, the new road will ease traffic flow and congestion along the route following rapid development of the oil and gas industry in the nearby districts and also attract tourists to visit the district here, he added.
"The Works Ministry has allocated $1.5 million this year to prepare the project design before its implementation next year," he said during the district-level Harvest Festival celebration officiated by the Huguan Siou cum Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan at the multipurpose hall, here, Saturday.
