Philippines and Spanish business leaders inked an agreement to further increase trade relations between the two countries.
“I think they are really interested in strengthening the trade relations with the Philippines,” said MBC Executive Director Peter Angelo V. Perfecto.
Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo also said that Spain is highly interested in increasing trade activities with the Philippines.
“We in the Spanish government believe that this part of Asia is a very attractive destination now, and we believe that it will be even more attractive in the years to come,”said Garcia-Margallo.
The minister said that Spain, whose economy was said to be picking up after its government implemented reforms to boost the economy after the 2007 financial crisis, is ready to engage more actively in trade.
As it looks to increase trade with the rest of Asia, “We are interested in making the Philippines a hub,” he added.
Garcia-Margallo was accompanied by a 25-person delegation representing 12 Spanish companies involved in information technology, energy, water, infrastructure and engineering.
