The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded a civil contract worth about US$148million (SGD $189.8 million) to Shimizu Corporation for the construction of Thomson Line tunnels from Seletar Expressway at Woodlands Avenue 12 to Springleaf station.
Construction work is expected to start by the first quarter of this year and complete in 2020.
LTA said Shimizu Corporation was previously involved in the design, construction and completion of Circle Line and Downtown Line 1 tunnels undercrossing Marina Bay Reservoir.
The 30km-long Thomson Line will enhance rail connectivity in the north-south corridors to the Central Business District (CBD) and developments in the Marina Bay area.
Fully underground, the Thomson Line comprises 22 stations, including six interchange stations -- Woodlands, Caldecott, Stevens, Orchard, Outram Park and Marina Bay.
