Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud service provider of Amazon.com, launched its new edge location in the Philippines for its Amazon CloudFront and Route 53 services.

Richard Harshman, the head of Amazon Web Services ASEAN, said the new edge location in Manila will increase performance for content delivery to its clients in the country.

Harshman explained that CloudFront is a web caching service that allows businesses to distribute content to its customers at high speeds.

The Amazon Route 53, on the other hand, is a scalable Domain Name System (DNS) web service to give businesses a cost effective way to route end users to internet application.

In Asia, AWS has edge locations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Sydney, Taipei, Tokyo, Chennai, Mumbai and Osaka.

AWS has 10 data center locations called "AWS Regions" in US, Europe, Japan, Singapore, China, Australia and Brazil.

Among the customers of AWS in the Philippines include Jollibee, Pinoy Travel and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

Several Philippine businesses already using AWS include Voyager Innovations, SplitmediaLabs and Kalibrr.

“We have teams that focus specifically on the Philippines because we see quite a lot of demand here for a number of years,” said Harshman.
