Indonesia beckons for private investments in upgrades of 10 airports located in tourism destinations and mining industry centers. Through public private partnership (PPP) including foreign investments, the Indonesian government hopes to improve the capacity and services in the 10 airports that saw more than 5% annual growth in passenger flow.

The state budget allocated for the total 233 airports in Indonesia throughout 2010-2014 only amounted to Rp$ 19.5 trillion (US$1.6 billion), while the anticipated development cost was at Rp$ 54 trillion (US$4.5 billion). Transportation Deputy Minister Bambang Susantono noted that progress can only be met through collaboration with private investments.

Currently 34 investors including companies from Japan, South Korea, India, China, and New Zealand, expressed interest in the projects. The tender process will begin next year.
