The 1Malaysia People's Housing Program (PR1MA) is to seal a deal with a Japanese company soon to build affordable houses for middle-income Malaysians. Datuk Adbul Mutalib Alias, CEO of PR1MA, pointed out that housing construction technology would be taken to a new level in Malaysia with the signing of the memorandum of understanding.
The new technology enables house building in less time (30 to 60 days for a bungalow), with 80,000 units mandated under the program; 38,757 units have been approved by the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, while other remaining units are yet to be completed due to land problems. “Thankfully, private developers began to approach and convert their housing projects to PR1MA projects,” Mutalib said.
With the new Japanese technology, 90% of the house-building process can be completed in a factory, and the price range would not exceed US$95,000 (RM$300,000) per unit.
