Astra Otoparts, the auto spare parts unit of Indonesia's largest automotive distributor, signed an agreement with MetalArt Corporation of Japan, to set up a joint venture at a site of 3.2 hectares in western Jakarta at the Karawang International Industrial City.
Astra recently launched a new factory in Subang in west Java, targeting the two-wheel market with a European partner.
Production parts, such as crankshafts, gears and connecting rods for four-wheel vehicle manufacturers, are expected to begin in July 2014, with an estimated output of around 50,000 units in 2014 and could potentially reach 8.7 million units by 2017. MetalArt (headquartered in Kusatsu City, Shiga ) will control 70% of the venture.
