Secure protection in the center of home data storage universe: Seagate Technology

Secure protection in the center of home data storage universe: Seagate Technology

On the way to the fortieth anniversary, Seagate Technology has been leading global data storage and protection for commercial projects and IoT industries with advanced data handling technology.

According to a study conducted by IDC, the amount of data will reach 163 zettabytes by 2025. A research of Seagate “Data Pulse: Maximizing the Potential of AI” also indicates that 89% of APAC organisations plan to implement AI technologies in the next 12 months, and 95% of respondents believe there is an increasing need for robust data storage solutions with growing AI applications. While 94% of the respondents agree that data security is critical for AI, the importance of how enterprises are dealing with their data becomes a highlight.

Comparing the pros of local and cloud storage, the cloud has higher accessibility unlimited to location and devices, as well as the advantage of cost-sharing with a greater amount of users. As for localized storage, it provides flexible scalability for end-users and enterprises. However, in the IoT era, people care a lot more about data security where a localized storage can ensure users’ control of their data and private information.

As data appears to gain more value in business asset and private areas, Seagate has the hard drive products secured from design to retirement. The storage services are categorized in essential and certified levels.

The essential level has key features like at-speed data encryption, digitally signed firmware, and complete data erasure; the certified level is designed for verticals such as government and finance, having highly standardized feature like FIPS 140-2 level 2 configuration which meets federal requirement for security products.

“There are plenty of anti-virus software, firewalls, or encryption tools in the market, but software alone is not a complete security solution for users’ data,” commented Robert Yang, Vice President, Asia Pacific Sales of Seagate Technology. “In the software side, there are multiple stages to block hackers from stealing the credentials. And at the hardware side, we view the product life cycle in a different way. Seagate secures data from various perspectives, from reliable design, trusted supply resources, and the edge encryption on hardware, to ensure the highest storage reliability to our users.”

In the smart home environment, security video surveillance is one of the example that generates massive amount of data. For example, when a family is on vacation, the security camera needs to work 24/7 to keep its owner noted with any unexpected home event. The workload of live footage and data logging will therefore be massive.

SkyHawk AI

SkyHawk AI is the first purpose-built hard drive for AI security surveillance of residential communities, smart buildings, or hotels. Its enhanced ImagePerfect firmware helps to minimize dropped frames in multi-stream and write-intensive video monitoring, supporting up to 64 HD cameras simultaneously. “The future home’s heart device will be connecting all kinds of home devices for management and control. We are seeing the huge potential growth of home technology driven by data, and Seagate will be there to provide the capability through our hard drives,” said Yang. “We are in the center of the home data storage universe, and this is how we involve in the future homes.”

As the diverse IoT industry going on a broader way, Seagate will keep up the industry-leading product quality with high performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, playing the key role of vital data storage for all businesses and homes.
