Smart home startups visit Taiwan for manufacturing partnership; Taiwan is IoT hardware hub
Peeple, Owlet Baby Care from USA and Swocket from Germany visited Taiwan to look for the hardware manufacturing partnership or investment at HWTrek event on August 18, 2015 in Taipei.

In the arena of IoT, coming with the creative ideas to solve the home life problems, startups have been regarded as the power to push the international smart home industry developing. However, there is a realty that averagely 70% of startups fail to deliver their products in the end. At the stage of DFM (Design for Manufacture), startups cannot find a suitable manufacturer to produce and maintain the product quality and cost.

According to Lee Feng Jian, Site Director of Google Taiwan, “Hardware is the key for IoT. And Taiwan is the world's  IoT hardware hub. Taiwan has the complete supply chains and total solutions from semiconductors, chipsets, key components, product design, test procedures and OEM/ODM services. And Google Taiwan plays the important base to sort out the manufacturing solutions for all Google IoT products such as ChromeBook, Nest Thermostat and Smoke Detectors, and others.” Jian believes the combination of startups’ creative ideas and software design with Taiwan's hardware manufacturing will be a very powerful integration.

At the event, Peeple presents a new style of the front door peephole. Chris Chuter of Peelpe said, “So if you have a door and you have a mobile phone, you need Peeple!” Owlet baby monitor is a smart sock for infants. It uses pulse oximetry to monitor the baby's heart rate and oxygen levels. Swocket is a smart socket that talk to you via APP. Consider it your smart home concierge.
